The book is a reference to 88 Reasons Why the Rapture Will Be in 1988 by Christian writer Edgar C. Whisenant (1932–2001). After Whisenant's predicted 1988 date passed uneventfully, he wrote books making predictions for 1989, 1993 and 1994.
