- The story title is a pun on the expression "flight of fancy".
- The comic takes its plot from the Greek myth involving Icarus, where Icarus attempted to escape Crete with a pair of wings constructed by Daedalus. As the wings were made of feathers and wax, Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun or the wings would melt. Caught up in the thrill of flying, however, Icarus ignored the warning and plummeted into the sea.
