The first version was called Simpsons Comics and was released with [[comiXology]] for iOS on July 12, [[2012]]. For the first week of the app's release, a free copy of {{SC|100}} was available for a short time at comiXology.com. A free digital download was included in {{SC|192}}. Digital versions of new ''Simpsons'' comic book titles will be available on the app a month after their print release, accompanied by selected classic issues from the Bongo archives. The app offers at least two digital releases to download every Wednesday with new and classic issues. In December 2015, an edition of the app was released for Android.

The app allows users to rate comics, buy the following issue, and look at comics that people also liked, as well as the comic the user has finished reading. It also allowed users to preview the comic before buying it, by featuring pages in a gallery.
