- The episode title is a reference to 1976 television series McMillan & Wife.
- Lambuggini is a parody of Lamborghini.
- Thayer Blackburn tells Homer that he can chug a Smartwater.
- "Friends" by Bette Midler plays during the scenes where Homer, Marge, Thayer, and Anne Blackburn hang out together.
- The scene where Nelson is followed on his bullying spree is a reference to the film Goodfellas where Henry Hill and Karen enter the Copacabana.
- The song that plays during this scene is "Then He Kissed Me" by The Crystals, which also plays in the scene from the film.
- Nelson asks Siri for one thing nerds have ever done.
- Bart and Nelson sing "See Saw Margery Daw", a real children's nursery rhyme.
