Doug is one of three nerds that Homer meets in college.
Homer gets him and his roommates Benjamin and Gary to play a prank on an enemy's school mascot, Sir-Oinks-A-Lot. They were to get him and get him drunk. They got expelled for doing this and then stayed with the Simpsons. Here, they got on the whole family's nerves and when they eventually left, everyone was relieved.
