Wikisimpsons:Admin Requests/AleWi

Wikisimpsons - The Simpsons Wiki

Everytime I'm here, he has filled up recent changes editing, usually on undeveloped things such as comics. He has over 23,000 mainspace edits, often deals with spam and unneeded edits, as far as I know has been constantly active for the past few years and is admin at the Swedish wiki. He could make good use of the tools, especially as some other admins get less active due to uni. (Note: User has accepted request here.) Cjcsdonut.png -- CJC 18:06, September 20, 2013 (EDT)

  2. I know he is responsible for Engrish on the wiki, but a lot of users have been sort of semi-active in the past several months, I know I have. Also, AleWi has created 850 of the last 1000 articles made on the wiki. He deserves admin, in my opinion. I don't think you can judge him only on his English skills. --Fred (Talk Contribs. 3. He's done a ton of work here the past few months. I think he's pretty deserving of the promotion. -- Webkinz ManiaTalkContributionsEditcount 23:42, September 20, 2013 (EDT)

Neutral (1)[edit]

  1. He should at least get some sort of spam deletion tools - save me having to do stuff :P.--Cook879 08:06, September 22, 2013 (EDT)

  1. AleWi is a great user. Don't get me wrong, he is extremely helpful to have around on the wiki. As an admin though, I can only see him being janitorial. An admin's job is to get points across to other users as well as perform the janitorial roles. English is not his first language and it's still pretty bad in some places (when written anyway, can't say about speaking) so it's sometimes hard to understand what he is explaining. This is something that is not wanted in an admin. Basically, improve your English writing skills AleWi, and you would have a high chance to become an admin. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:15, September 20, 2013 (EDT)

  • Not sure if this is the right format, so feel free to change if you want. Cjcsdonut.png -- CJC 18:06, September 20, 2013 (EDT)
  • I just want to say that amount of edits alone should not decide who becomes admin. Activity should be one of the criteria but not the deciding criteria. The fact that AleWi can sometimes be misunderstood or not get his point across clearly because of his slightly bad English skills is enough for me to decide against him being admin. If you put yourself in the shoes of a new member. You just made a mistake and AleWi tells them you on your talk page, you don't understand what he meant so you ignore it and make the same mistake again. That's when you get blocked. How would you feel about it? I'd be pretty annoyed. No offense to you AleWi, you are a great user, just not ready to be an admin yet in my eyes. • Well, I think I see the role of admin in a different way then you, in that I don't consider it so much as a role but some tools that help you edit. The issue you mention is something that would no doubt improve with practice - most admins I've seen at other wikis who speak English as a first language struggle to explain why users have had an edit undone (well actually, most don't even bother.) I see it as a minor issue, sure, but something that can be worked on. Also, would he not have had to explain to a user why he has undone or rollbacked an edit in the pass? Has that ever been an issue akin to the example you mention above? Cjcsdonut.png -- CJC 05:39, September 21, 2013 (EDT)
  • Frederick, part of what makes a good admin is good communication skills. His Engrish means that he doesn't have that, in English anyway... The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 03:35, September 21, 2013 (EDT)
