South Dakota is one of the 50 states in the US. It's capital city is Pierre and it's largest city is Sioux Falls.

History

After getting run out of Florida, the Simpson family was trying to decide on where to go for their next vacation. They were looking at a map of the US that had most of states crossed out, which were apparently all the states that the Simpsons were no longer allowed to enter.[1]

While driving Bart to a disciplinary camp in Oregon, Homer passes a sign that reads "Mount Rushmore - 20 feet out of your way!"[2]

Bart asks Homer "If a plane crashes on the border of North and South Dakota, where do you bury the survivors?" Homer guesses Minnesota, but Bart says he is wrong because you can't bury survivors.[3]
