"Bart Stops to Smell The Roosevelts" is the second episode of Season 23. It first aired on October 2, 2011.

Synopsis

Bart pulls a prank that pushes Skinner over the edge and makes him challenge Chalmers into handling Bart. Skinner becomes hard headed and stops being a pushover while a bad flashback persuades Chalmers into accepting the challenge. The superintendent finds it hard to teach him but ends up finding support in the history of the legend T.Roosevelt. Bart actually enjoys learning about a popular cowboy he can relate to. He shares his knowledge with Nelson, Kearney, Jimbo and Milhouse and invites them to his lessons with Chalmers. They all visit a mountain which was made by T.Roosevelt in search of his spectacles. Nelson ends up finding them in a deep ditch and ends up falling in. Chalmers gets into trouble and Nelsons mother wants to sue him and ends up losing his job as teacher and superintendent. Bart, Nelson, Jimbo, Keaney and Milhouse attempt to get him his job back by planning to take over the school and not giving it back until they let him have his job back. He acts like Roosevelt and locks himself in the school with all tne students. The town gather around and witness this and try everything in their power to try them to stand down. Chalmers has a talk with Bart and ends up getting his job back. All the students are released and happy to be back with society.

Plot

The episode starts with the Simpsons going to the Springfield Elementary School auction. Bart poses as an English widow called Enith Knickertwist on the phone. 'She' bids thousands of dollars for each item meaning the school would have raised 116,000 dollars if it hadn't been a prank. Skinner gets angry with Superintendent Chalmers and says he should try teaching Bart. Superintendent Chalmers reveals his hero as former President Theodore Roosevelt. Bart learns about Teddy Roosevelt along with Milhouse, Jimbo, Dolph and Nelson. After Nelson gets hurt in a accident at a Field Trip, Superintendent Chalmers ends up getting fired. Once again it is up to Bart to help get his job back, by getting all the teachers out of the school and locking the doors and windows in protest. The teachers are unable to get their paychecks and with angry mothers like and many others who are worried about their children end up calling the police. The police attempt to break down the door but Bart threatens to destroy the photocopier. They eventually win out when the School Boardman ends up getting shot in the leg, causing him to reinstate Chalmers.
