Opening Sequence

It's Halloween at the Burns manor, and Smithers is up a ladder leaning against the center (and highest) tower, struggling to hang a small orange bat decoration on a lightning rod. At Burns' insistence, Smithers puts the bat at the very top, because it won't scare anyone if he hangs it any lower. Smithers succeeds, but slips and falls backwards off of the ladder. Smithers grabs an electrical cable, slides down it to a side tower, and crashes into a high-voltage power box, which electrocutes him. The tower breaks in half and its upper portion falls over and hits the Burns family mausoleum, smashing it open and knocking four caskets out of the front. The caskets slide toward the front porch where they end up standing upright and open, revealing the corpses inside them.

Just then the trick-or-treating Simpsons walk up to the Burns manor in their Halloween costumes. Homer and Marge are dressed as Fred and Wilma Flintstone; Lisa and Maggie as conjoined twins; and Bart as a hobo. Bart and Lisa complain about getting toothpaste from Flanders. The family arrives just in time to see Smithers' body burst into flames, showering sparks which set the four caskets on fire. The sight frightens them so badly that they scream and run back out through the gate, which cuts them into vertical slices. The slices of the Simpsons continue to scream and run away, scattering into the nearby woods.

Burns, who has climbed up the ladder to the lightning rod, is pleased: "Splendid, Batsy. You've done it again!" He then pats the bat decoration, which comes to life and flies into the screen, revealing the title: "THE SIMPSONS HALLOWEEN SPECIAL XII."

Plot

Hex and the City

The Simpsons are walking in Ethnictown, an immigrant neighborhood of Springfield. Marge and the kids see a fortune teller's shop and go in. The Gypsy in the shop starts to tell Marge's fortune, but is interrupted by the late arrival of Homer, who calls the Gypsy a fake and a fraud. Offended, the Gypsy tells Homer to leave, but on his way out he's freaked out by the beads in the doorway, flails about all over the place, knocks over some lit candles, and sets himself on fire. Homer rolls around trying to put the flames out, and the sprinklers (set off by the fires) trash the Gypsy's office by drenching everything in it. Now enraged, the Gypsy places a curse on Homer, telling him that he will bring bad luck to everyone he loves. Homer pooh-poohs the curse, but Marge warns him that the Gypsy's curse could mean his family.

Marge's warning is proven correct the very next morning, when she wakes up with a beard and mustache, to the family's shock. She ends up completely covered with hair. Lisa turns into a centaur and Maggie into a ladybug (but still with a human head), while Bart's neck, after a strangling from Homer, becomes so long that he can't hold his head up anymore and he eventually dies.

Homer goes to Moe's Tavern for advice, and Moe suggests that Homer capture a Leprechaun to get rid of the curse. Homer continues to deny that he's been cursed, but right after that, a helicopter crashes through the roof, killing Lenny and Carl, and Moe ends up stuffed into his own suddenly-oversized pickled egg jar, to Homer's surprise ("When did that happen?"). Homer digs a trap, planning to bait it with Lucky Charms to capture a Leprechaun, but on his first attempt catches only rabbits because he accidentally uses Trix for bait. Homer succeeds on the second attempt (after using the right bait) and takes the Leprecahun home, but all it does is run amuck and trash the house. Lisa then suggests that Homer sic the Leprechaun on the Gypsy. Homer takes Lisa's advice, returning to the Gypsy's shop and setting the Leprechaun loose on her. Initially, it seems to be working, as the two of them roll around on the floor fighting. But very quickly, to Homer's disgust, the fighting and scratching turn to kissing and fondling, as they've fallen in love.

The Gypsy and the Leprechaun decide to get married, and attending the wedding are other gypsies, assorted mythical creatures, Kang and Kodos, and Homer and Marge. Yoda, officiating, pronounces the Gypsy and Leprechaun husband and wife, and Homer comments that everything worked out for the best. Marge, shocked, reminds Homer that Bart is dead, but an apology from Homer would bring him back (according to the Gypsy). Homer stubbornly refuses: "She's not the boss of me."

House of Whacks

A salesbot pitches Marge a new house concept called the "Ultrahouse" (a spoof on the psychotic, sexually aggressive computer in Demon Seed and HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey). The salesbot assures Marge that she will never have to do housework again. Impressed, Marge agrees and the house is installed by robots. They check out the voice options, trying Matthew Perry and Dennis Miller (known here as "the voice that caused suicides" [with Marge correcting Lisa with "Murder-suicides"]), before agreeing on Pierce Brosnan. Marge finds the house, which does all the work for the Simpsons, charming. But the house becomes infatuated with Marge and in a rage of psychotic jealousy, attempts to kill Homer. In the middle of the night, the house lures Homer downstairs by frying bacon, and then presumably tears him to shreds in a garbage disposal. The next morning, Marge fears that Homer is dead; she is relieved when it turns out he is merely missing the back of his head but is still alive. After the house attempts to kill him in many ways, Homer leads a charge to the basement where he attacks the water softener before being corrected by Lisa and takes out the CPU. The disconnected Ultrahouse CPU is given to Patty and Selma. After a while of listening to them, the CPU decides to self destruct but discovers that Selma removed his self destruct button and when he attempts to retrieve it Selma puts it between her breasts and the Ultrahouse (unwilling to look between Selma's cleavage) decides to bash itself to pieces with Patty and Selma's Egyptian pyramid lamp.

Wiz Kids

Parodying the Harry Potter books and movies, Bart and Lisa go to the "Springwart's School of Magicry" where they do an assignment of turning frogs into princes. Harry (as Harry Potter himself) chewing a brimstone-like gum, Milhouse (As Neville Longbottom) turns his frog into an unpleasant cockney man. Lisa (as Hermione Granger) turns her frog into a charming British handsome gentleman, but Bart (as Ron Weasley) is as bad a wizard as he is a student and turns his frog into a strange-looking creature, who constantly pukes and claims that "Every moment I live is agony!" Lord Montymort (Mr. Burns, as Voldemort) notices Lisa's spells and he and his snake sidekick, Slithers (Smithers, as Nagini) decide to capture Lisa. Montymort looks for someone to assist him and chooses Bart, who arrives in Montymort's lair via a hand drier, (Similar to the Chamber of Secrets entrance). Bart agrees to Montymort's proposal out of spite and jealousy. On the night of the magic recital at Springwart's School of Magicry, Milhouse is performing a trick called "The Invisibility Cloak", which makes all his clothes disappear. Skinner (as Dumboldore) then sprays amnesia dust on the audience, causing them to clap. Next is Lisa who attempts a "levitating dragon trick" on gigantic dragon that is released onto the stage. Lisa is shocked to find that her spell will not work, and then notices that Bart has replaced her wand with a black-and-white Twizzler. The dragon morphs into a giant Montymort and the audience scrambles in terror. Homer looks up in shock, but his right eye moves down to watch his portable TV, ala Mad Eye Moody. Montymort captures Lisa who urges Bart to use her real wand to save her. Bart casts a spell against "the evil one" and is therefore struck by lightning himself, but uses the charred wand to stab Montymort in his "enchanted shin" which was the source of his power. Montymort dies. Slithers cries as he eats the deceased Montymort, and Bart and Lisa are together, trying to forget the nightmare.
