Template:EpisodeHD "Treehouse of Horror XXIV" is the five hundred and thirty-second episode of The Simpsons, the second episode of the twenty-fifth season and the twenty-fourth installment in the Treehouse of Horror series.

Synopsis

In “Oh The Places You’ll D’oh,” the first of three spine-tingling stories, Homer rides around Springfield wreaking havoc as “The Fat in The Hat” in a rhyming Dr. Seuss-ian tale. In “Dead and Shoulders,” Bart is beheaded during a kite accident, his head is attached to Lisa’s body and they must live together as one. The final terrifying tale, “Freaks no Geeks,” features Mr. Burns’ traveling circus, The Burnsum and Bailey Circus, which has stopped in Springfieldland in the 1930s. Trapeze artist Marge and Strong Man Homer are performers and things go awry when circus freak Moe starts to make advances towards Marge.[1]

Plot

Act I: "Oh The Places You’ll D’oh"

It's Halloween in a Dr. Seuss-ian Springfield and three young children (Bart, Lisa and Maggie) are home with the mumps, while the rest of the town is busy trick-or-treating. Their mother (Marge) leaves them home-alone while she attends a costume party and the kids quickly become bored. Suddenly, they hear a knock on the door - it's The Fat In The Hat.
He administers anti-mump shots to the children, before taking them out for candy on his cycle. Before they can leave, Grampa warns the Fat in the Hat that she should not be with the children while their mother is out and starts preparing for a fight. The Fat knocks him unconscious with his gadget-riddled umbrella and the gang head out. In the garden, they encounter the Bore-ax, who speaks for the woods but has plastered his name on consumer goods. "Sell-out!" the Fat in the Hat yells, as he shoves the Bore-ax and his products into a recycling can.
Once out and about in town, the Fat in the Hat ends up causing chaos inculding robbing Apu, blowing up Mr. Burns' mansion, killing Moe and leaving a pile of bodies. That's when the kids realize they must escape and so they hop on a three-humped gumbammel(Barney), then a Krusty-cow (Krusty) - which ultimately gets beheaded by Sideshow Bob - and then fly home on a large bee (Bumblebee Man).
However, The Fat In The Hat is there and waiting and insists on being their new dad. Before he can finish, Maggie stabs him with his very own umbrella. The Fat in The Hat dies, with his last words being: "I'm afraid of nothing, not even hellfires. Just please, don't ever let me be played by Mike Myers."

Act II: "Dead and Shoulders"

Bart and Millhouse fly their kites in an airport, but Millhouse goes to the hospital and with no where to tie his kite Bart ties his kite around his neck. He gets beheaded by Arnie Pye's helicopter. He then wakes up with his head on Lisa and she still controls her body. She makes Bart's life boring until they go and get therapy and get used to being stuck together. Later Bart finds out when Lisa is asleep he is in control he makes several tries to get rid of her head until they both get beheaded in a saw mill. They both wake up with Lisa stuck to Krusty, Bart with Selma and Dr. Nick with Dr. Hibbert.

Act III: "Freaks no Geeks"

The final terrifying tale, features Mr. Burns’ traveling circus, The Burnsum and Bailey Circus, which has stopped in Springfieldland in the 1930s. Trapeze artist Marge and Strong Man Homer are performers and things go awry when circus freak Moe starts to make advances towards Marge. Eventually, Marge leaves Homer for Moe, and Homer is tarred & feathered from the waist-down, being presented as a new freakshow attraction, "The World's Strongest Duck". Later, it is shown in a newspaper that the 'duck' (Homer) died a few years later.

Production

The couch gag was directed by Guillermo del Toro. The extended titles featured a lot of homages to horror flicks, including Guillermo del Toro's own Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth.[2]

According to Al Jean in an interview on September 28, 2012, this episode was already completed by then and includes "a very violent world resembling Dr. Seuss', and also the movie Freaks."[3]

Reception

The episode received 6.42 million viewers, making it the most watched show of the night beating American Dad!, Bob's Burgers and Family Guy.[4]
