The Zombies are walking corpes that need to feed on the flesh of the living to survive. In the Treehouse of Horror Series they lay waste to Springfield.
Treehouse of Horror III
The first time that Zombies appeared was in Treehouse of Horror III in Bart Simpson's story. In the story Bart brings them back to life with a supernatural curse while trying to bring Snowball I back to life. The zombies travel across springfield eating and turning many people into zombies. When the zombies break into the Simpson's house they attempt to eat Homer but consider him brainless. When Bart and Lisa think of a plan to reverse the spell the Simpsons head down to Springfield Elementary School where Homer kills various zombies. Eventually, Bart reads the spell and the zombies return to their graves.
The Simpsons: Hit and Run
The second time the Zombies appeared was in the final level of The Simpsons: Hit and Run. As part of Kang and Kodos plan to wake the dead to get their ratings up. Throughout the last level they are seen walking around Springfield. Strangely, the Zombies do not attack Homer, but the radio describes them attacking Springfield Stadium. After Homer blows up the UFO, it is assumed that the zombies were killed.
The third occasion was during The Simpsons halloween special 19. In the segment they were refered to as the "Munchers". This zombie disease was caused by an attempt by Krusty Burger to get that "Double Cow Goodness" by feeding cow meat to cows. Instead they created the "Munchers" who zombified the populace of Springfield. The Simpsons are safe in their home until Bart sneaks out of the house to retrieve the only Krusty Burger left. This burger is one of the infected burgers that caused the outbreak. Instead of becoming a "Muncher" he realises that he is immune to the effect of the disease and accidentaly leads the "Munchers" back to the Simpson home. The Simpsons are almost rescued by Rainier Wolfcastle who is killed by the "Munchers" Apu then rescues them with his jeep.

- Even though the zombies are all the same they were caused by 3 different things : First there was a supernatural curse. Second was an alien experiment . third was a genetic disease
