Lyrics

[Bart grabs hold of Lisa's nose, and she wakes up snorting and spluttering.]
Lisa:
What, Bart? It's six a.m.!
Bart:
That's right! Hope you like your present! And a-one, and a-two, and a one two three four!
[Bart plays the bongos (on an upended wastebasket) while Leon Kompowski plays the piano.]
Leon:
Mmm-hmm.
Bart:
Mmm-hmm.
Leon Kompowski:
Lisa, it's your birthday,
God bless you this day.
Bart:
You gave me the gift of a little sister
And I'm proud of you today.
Bart & Leon:
Lisa, it's your birthday,
Happy birthday, Lisa.
Lisa, it's your birthday,
Happy birthday, Lisa.
Leon:
I wish you love and goodwill,
I wish you peace and joy.
Bart:
I wish you better than your heart desires...
Leon:
And your first kiss from a boy.
Bart & Leon:
Lisa, it's your birthday,
Happy birthday, Lisa.
Lisa, it's your birthday,
Happy birthday, Lisa.
Bart:
Yeah.
Lisa:
Oh, this is the best present I ever got! Thank you, Bart!

Behind the Laughter

  • The song was one of the few original songs performed twice. The first time was with piano and percussion during the episode, and the second during the closing credits with full musical backup.
  • This song was written by Michael Jackson, but due to contractual obligations, he was credited as "W.A. Mozart" on the album Songs in the Key of Springfield.
  • Although Jackson did write the song and provide his voice for the episode, his singing voice was dubbed by Kipp Lennon, once again due to contractual obligations.
