Cultural references
- Bart's using a power line as an improvised zip-line is reminiscent of Jack Sparrow's escape from the English soldiers near the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Continuity
- When Lisa says it feels like twenty years since the last Itchy & Scratchy movie, it is a reference to the television episode "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie". The episode first aired on November 2, 1992, nearly twenty years before the story appeared.
