Rain Man is a 1988 drama film starring Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise. It revolves around a brother, Charlie Babbitt, trying to grow closer to his idiot savant brother Raymond. It won Best Picture at the 1988 Academy Awards.

Another reference is Floyd, who is able to multiply any two numbers. However, whereas Raymond multiplies extraordinary high numbers Homer just asks Floyd a relatively simple calculation sum and is still impressed that Floyd manages to know the answer.

5 91 "$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling)" While Homer works in the casino he meets the main characters from Rain Man. When Raymond starts to get anxious because he wants to return home and watch Wapner this is a reference to a similar scene from the film, particularly when he starts to freak out.

5 99 "Burns' Heir" The actor who tries to portray Homer Simpson in a fake secret video depicting the Simpsons family in order to fool Bart has trouble understanding Homer's character: "Is he supposed to have some kind of neurological impairment like "Rain Man" or "Awakenings"?" Both "Rain Man" and "Awakenings" are films about mentally-challenged people.
