Plot

At the First Church of Springfield, while Bullies manage parking, badly, people seems to have filled up the church, while Mr. Burns is seen at home reading his version of the Bible, but Bode notices fewer people actually are attending. Bode tries to bring other religions in, while Ned is disappointed and missing the old ways.

When Bode mentions him believing God can be a he or she to him, Lisa starts singing "Maybe This Time" in her imagination on her three beliefs, in Jesus, Buddha and science. Compelled to leave, Ned is stopped by Rod and Todd remembering his rule of not leaving till the pastor says so, so he sits back down.

Meanwhile, in Michigan, Reverend Lovejoy and Helen visit the Blessed Buy Megachurch, where Bode got fired. The church has some weird practices that make Lovejoy uncomfortable and he gets escorted to Preacher Mac.

Lovejoy asks about Bode and the preacher presents them a USB sticker with proof about Bode. At home, Marge points to Lisa how she'll get disappointed in believing Bode will be kept in town as pastor, as Springfield has a tendency to not keeping new stuff in, and points to her past disappointments on her vision board, that falls to the ground.

The Lovejoys come back to town fast, while Homer takes Bode at Moe's, seeking forgiveness from Bode, which Bode gives. Bode then goes to Ned's house for a confrontation on scriptures, which he wins.

During the acrimony at the church, Lovejoy returns announcing what he found in Michigan: the reason Bode was fired is because burned the Bible. The next Tuesday, Lisa presents the debate between the two priests, but Springfieldians doesn't accept forgiveness and Bode accepts leaving town.

The Simpson family invites him over for dinner, and Lisa then asks him at church the reason he burned the Bible. He says that God is in the heart, not in a cathedral or a book, but Lisa tells him that the people in town don't get subtext.

He gets the message to leave town when people hold sign for him to leave and a brick is thrown through the window, so he leave and Chief Wiggum says to Lou he lost faith after this.
