Virgil Simpson was a runaway slave of Colonel Burns that Eliza Simpson attempted to help escape to the underground railroad. Eliza's mother Mabel Simpson, helped him escape to Canada where she married him and bore a son, Abraham, who was Grampa Simpson's great grandfather.
