What do you think? Hovering over the image will make a box appear. This can be useful not to take too much space. — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 21:26, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Nice :) That's a good idea as the current one doesn't say what the doughnut means.--Cook879 21:28, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, but now it's on top, the box shrinks. If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this problem, please do so. Thanks. — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 23:53, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
So, what do you think now? A floating image. I know, it resembles a similar tool some wiki farm has, but it's pretty useful and it looks good.
Which of these two examples do you like?

Floating donut is too intrusive to me. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:00, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
That being said, if we could add more icons to make it a bar thing (real world, protected, stub, image needed, bad image etc.) it could become more useful then. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 17:04, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
That's a good idea. Hey, really good! We can extend the bar to make it as much large as the page. The bar should be only on pages that have one of those templates, so pages with no icons or boxes don't have the bar. Example, an article that needs an image, the Image needed template should be turned into the bar, with the message "This article needs an image". The same article is a stub, the stub template should be turned into the same bar, but the image needed message in already on the bar, so the stub template should have a parameter that allows the stub message to be positioned on an specific area of the bar, so it doesn't float over the image needed message. Now, the same article is protected, the protected image should be made a floating image so it's positioned on the bottom right and on the bar. If the article already has an image (real world), then the protected template should have the same parameter I explained one minute ago so it doesn't float over the real world image. Uhhh... did you understand? Well, I'm gonna make some tests. — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 22:22, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, if you manage to get that working, it would really declutter the articles of improvement templates. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 22:27, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
Well, I know how I want it to look. I've thought of a way to make it work. I've tested to see if it works. It should, bit it doesn't. This is my idea:
  • An article has one template (e.g. Image needed). Just adding {{Image needed}} will make the bar appear.
  • An article has two templates (e.g. Image needed and stub). Here, it makes longer, because a third template is needed to work, but since there are few pages with two of these templates, it won't take too much adding it to all pages. This has to be added.
{{Toolbar
|1={{Image needed|t}}
|2={{Stub|t}}
}}

The "t" is needed too for it to work. However, despite the first example works, the second doesn't. It should show the bar with both messages (Image needed and stub), but it just shows the stub message (see Wikisimpsons:Sandbox). I'd appreciate any help (really. I get angry when something doesn't work), please. Perhaps it's much simpler than I thought. I think we should wait until the next IRC chat so we can think on more ideas. — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 17:13, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

I see the need an image one is overlapped by the stub one. I'll have a look although i'm no template expert. Me, cjc and Solar are on IRC now although we may not be able to help. (Smiley may be able to).--Cook879 17:23, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Just a little guess into why you have the problem - You have the three sections ({{{1|}}}{{{2|}}}{{{3|}}}) and you have no specific placing for each (i.e they are right next to each other) and so there is nothing to stop them overlapping. That means when (like with the Stub and Image needed template) two templates have the same formatting (i.e. the right side of the page) they freely overlap as there is no specific place for their part. I hope that made sense.--Cook879 17:31, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
After a lot of attempts I got something. I got two stub templates to sit side by side User:Cook879/Sandbox. A third pushes it onto the next line though. I'm not 100% certain what i changed from your template and can't check right now, but i know the floats had something to do with the success User:Cook879/TheHomer'stemplate. I also put the stub template to basics for this just to see, it may work with your ones I have yet to try User:Cook879/TheHomer'stemplate/stub. Hope that helps.--Cook879 18:55, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, it works! Thank you, Cook! After all, you know about templates. I'll fix later the minor tweaks (the floating box). Anyway, I found that, even if there is only one template, you have to type "t=" at the end. This is a problem, because that means we should add it to all templates, unless it appears automatically, something I can make it happen, by adding some codes to the templates. — TheHomer (TalkContributions) 23:30, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
Nice to see it working :).--Cook879 15:58, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
