The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings is a 1954-1955 high fantasy novel series by J.R.R. Tolkien. It has been adapted into film too, the most famous version being Peter Jackson's adaptation from 2001-2003. Both the original novel and Jackson's film version have been referenced and parodied numerous times on The Simpsons.

Cleanie appears and puts some dirty dishes in to a sack, cuddling them saying "Ahh, my precious", like Gollum. Even further, Andy Serkis, who voiced Gollum in the 2001-2003 film trilogy by Peter Jackson, voices Cleanie. 18 393 "Rome-Old and Juli-Eh" Bart and Lisa build a fort out of cardboard boxes. Later, Raphael comes to ask for the boxes back, but Bart and Lisa refuse, leading to Raphael threatening to come back with others, in a very cliché the Lord of the Rings voice. When Raphael comes back, he is accompanied by an army of delivery people. They them begin war, with The Fields of Pelennor playing as background music (a piece of music from Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy). The battle is a parody of the Battle of the Hornburg from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. As well as a delivery man riding a fell beast (much like a Nazgûl), several remarks are made, mirroring ones made in the film trilogy. 395 "Marge Gamer" Bart's character in Earthland Realms, the Shadow Knight, acts similar to a Nazgûl. 250px The Simpsons Movie An orc is among the mob trying to kill the Simpsons. 19 411 "That '90s Show" Set in the 1990s, Comic Book Guy is heard saying: "And that is why The Lord of the Rings can never be filmed". 21 447 "Pranks and Greens" Homer says "You found the precious!", referencing Gollum. 23 495 "Holidays of Future Passed" The living tree that holds Bart's treehouse resembles an Ent. 25 550 "Brick Like Me" Bart's LEGO robot is made partially out of a Hobbit Hole playset. 26 554 "The Wreck of the Relationship" One of the people on Homer's team is named Leg O'Las, a pun on the character Legolas. 28 609 "The Great Phatsby: Part Two" One of the lines of the song "Jazzy James Battle Rap" is "You reached out and stole 'em, like Gollum did precious." 29 619 "The Serfsons" Goblin Milhouse is as disposable as the orcs in the movies. The Ent-Draught is a potion in the movies. The man in a cloak with a pipe at Moe's Tavern is a reference to Aragorn. The All-Smelling Tower is a reference to the All-Seeing Eye of Sauron, also referenced by Homer. Treestache and the other trees are a reference to the Ents. Peter Jackson and the The Hobbit trilogy are referenced in a dinner ticket. 3 Hobbits are sitting in a cage to be eaten. Billy Boyd sung the end credits song, "The Perfect Tale", a reference to "The Last Goodbye" from The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. 30 643 "Treehouse of Horror XXIX" Scott Muller is credited as "Scottuman The White (Wine Drinker)", a reference to Saruman.

Picture Game Reference The Simpsons Game In the level NeverQuest, Mobbits appear, a parody, in both name and appearance, of Hobbits. Also, after Homer receives the keycard, he says "My precious", again referencing Gollum. Also, two statues are similar to Argonath, the Pillars of the Kings. Plus, a red dragon resembles Smaug. The Simpsons: Tapped Out A film called Bored of the Things: Extended Cut can be played at the Drive-In Theater, introduced during Treehouse of Horror XXV. The icon for the film is an orange ring. The All-Smelling Tower is a reference to the Eye of Sauron. The Shadow Knight, which acts similar to a Nazgûl, is a costume for Bart.

Picture Book Reference The Marge Book One of the movies listed in "Marge Simpson's Sisterhood of DVDs" is the romance film, Lord of the Engagement Rings. Flanders' Book of Faith Among Ned's non-offensive DVD shelf is a film titled Lord of the Rings and Everything Else.
