The Little Mermaid is a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, which was adapted into a 1989 animated feature film by the Walt Disney Company. The story and film have been referenced several times in The Simpsons.

Bart is amazed that the story wasn't thought up by Disney, but Hans Christian Andersen. Homer then mentions the crab was the only good thing about the movie.
