The Fly is a 1958 science fiction horror movie by Kurt Neumann based on a short story by George Langelaan. The plot follows a scientist who accidentally mutates himself into a fly. One version of himself has a fly's head and paw but an otherwise human body, the other has the body of a fly with his head. The picture also had Vincent Price in a supporting role. In 1986 the film was remade by David Cronenberg starring Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. Both films have been frequently referenced on The Simpsons.

The scene where he is stuck in a spider’s web parodies the 1958 original, while the more icky scenes reference the 1986 remake. 11 230 "Treehouse of Horror X" Bart appears in the couch gag with a fly's head. 16 350 "Future-Drama" A mutated spider with Moe’s head appears who claims: “A spider got into the cloning machine.” 25 532 "Treehouse of Horror XXIV" Among the people seen in the Guillermo del Toro opening sequence is Brundlefly. 25 540 "Married to the Blob" Comic Book Guy quotes “Help me!” and specifies it’s a reference to “The Fly”. 25 549 "What to Expect When Bart's Expecting" A fly writes “Help me!” on a painting, in reference to the final scene of the 1958 film. 28 601 "Trust But Clarify" Professor Frink’s dryer looks like the scientific chamber from “The Fly”.
