The seventeenth season of The Simpsons ran for 22 episodes; the first being "The Bonfire of the Manatees" which aired on September 11, 2005, and the last being "Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play", on May 21, 2006.

One episode in this season, "The Seemingly Never-Ending Story" won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming less than One Hour). At the 34th Annie Awards, episode writer Ian Maxtone-Graham won the award for "Best Writing in an Animated Television Production."^[1]Kelsey Grammer won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for his voice portrayal of Sideshow Bob in "The Italian Bob".^[2] The DVD and Blu-ray boxset was released in December 2014.^[3] and also features Sideshow Bob on the cover.^[4]

But Lisa is profoundly moved by the re-installation, since she has a front-row seat from her bedroom window, and it all culminates to her having nightmares and moving in with Homer and Marge. 359 "Milhouse of Sand and Fog" September 25, 2005 Steven Dean Moore Patric M. Verrone GABF19 Kirk and Luann reconcile after some heavy talking at a pox party (don't ask), but there's a difference - they are unknowingly being selfish and ignoring Milhouse, which leaves him down in the dumps. Mischievous as always, he and Bart conjure up a plan that inadvertently leads the parents of both children to split up - again! 360 "Treehouse of Horror XVI" November 6, 2005 David Silverman Marc Wilmore GABF17 A comatose Bart is replaced by a robot after he fails to jump into a pool, but when the two finally meet - it leads to a rivalry - and then the former being dumped in the woods; a duplicitous Burns is at it again when he invites residents of Springfield to his hunting event - then decides to turn in into a survival of the fittest as he hunts them; a witch visits a fancy-dress contest, at which everyone thinks it's a costume, and so the incensed witch recklessly performs spells on everyone - and Maggie unwittingly becomes the one who can revert the incantations. Guest starring: Dennis Rodman as himself and Terry Bradshaw as himself. 361 "Marge's Son Poisoning" November 13, 2005 Mike B. Anderson Daniel Chun GABF20 When visiting a closing amusement pier, Marge purchases a tandem which she believes Homer will ride with her, but instead he goes off to an arm-wrestling competition, and Bart kindly volunteers to ride with her, seeing how forlorn she is. But it all goes badly wrong when Bart is branded a "momma's-boy" and kicks off... 362 "See Homer Run" November 20, 2005 Nancy Kruse Stephanie Gillis GABF21 Homer's attempts at fathering fail completely when he mistreats a birthday gift from Lisa, which leads Homer to become safety salamander at Springfield Elementary to try and impress her. But when Homer saves many residents from a pile-up, and runs for mayor, it seems Homer's fame is going to his head... 363 "The Last of the Red Hat Mamas" November 27, 2005 Matthew Nastuk Joel H. Cohen GABF22 Homer embarrasses Marge once again with his puerile behaviour and she feels as if she'll never gain friends with him around, until that is she is invited to join a women's group called the Cheery Red Tomatoes, which is innocent enough at first - until Marge has proven herself to be a virtuous member and is introduced to a heist plan... Meanwhile, Milhouse teaches Lisa Italian, and Lisa begins developing unrequited feelings... Guest starring: Lily Tomlin as Tammy. 364 "The Italian Bob" December 11, 2005 Mark Kirkland John Frink HABF02 After Mr. Burns is teased about his car, he sends Homer and the family off to Italy to pick up his new fancy sports car. While on their Italian adventure, the Simpsons end up stranded in a small Italian village where a rehabilitated Sideshow Bob reigns as mayor with a wife and son. Guest starring: Maria Grazia Cucinotta as Francesca Terwilliger and Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob. 365 "Simpsons Christmas Stories" December 18, 2005 Steven Dean Moore Don Payne HABF01 Homer tells the whole church about the creation of Jesus, Bart and Lisa are told the story of Grampa's decade-old attempt to get revenge on Santa Claus, and the performance of "The Nutcracker" at Springfield Elementary makes everyone go singing-crazy, especially Moe. 366 "Homer's Paternity Coot" January 8, 2006 Mike B. Anderson Joel H. Cohen HABF03 The discovery of a frozen mailman from the 60s sends shockwaves through the Simpson family after it transpires Homer's mother Mona may have actually been impregnated by a nobody called Mason Fairbanks. Guest starring: Michael York as Mason Fairbanks, William H. Macy as himself and Joe Frazier as himself. 367 "We're on the Road to D'ohwhere" January 29, 2006 Nancy Kruse Kevin Curran HABF04 Bart's recklessness in the steam tunnel turns Springfield Elementary into, practically, a damp mess, and Homer is advised to take him to an education camp - which means giving up a trip to Vegas and spending the time instead with his idiotic son. But the two begin to bond more on the journey, and will Homer make that crucial decision. Meanwhile, Marge decides to have a clear out, and some prescription drugs appear out of nowhere, which Otto and some others take an interest in... 368 "My Fair Laddy" February 26, 2006 Bob Anderson Michael Price HABF05 Retribution is on the cards when a new gym teacher is determined to pummel students with dodgeballs incessantly as his main choice of sport, and Bart takes it into his own hands - filling up a dodgeball with ice-cold water. But it goes errant and accidentally breaks a window and falls on top of Willie's shack, flattening it, and, feeling sorry, Bart takes him in, and Lisa surprisingly turns his life around by transforming him into a pompous gentleman. 369 "The Seemingly Never-Ending Story" March 12, 2006 Raymond Persi Ian Maxtone-Graham HABF06 When The Simpsons get stuck in a cave after a failed nature trip, Lisa is told a story by Homer, while the rest of the family try to get help. More stories evolve, and will the whole cave story actually be a story? Guest starring: Maurice LaMarche as Commander McBragg. 370 "Bart Has Two Mommies" March 19, 2006 Michael Marcantel Dana Gould HABF07 Marge offers to babysit Rod and Todd, and it turns out quite well, until she starts throwing Band-Aid required activities into the mix; Homer and the kids visit the zoo where Bart is kidnapped by a depressed monkey, who thinks Bart is her son. Guest starring: Susan Sarandon as herself, Dave Thomas as Bob Hope, Randy Johnson as himself and Antonio Fargas as Huggy Bear. 371 "Homer Simpson, This Is Your Wife" March 26, 2006 Matthew Nastuk Ricky Gervais HABF08 "Mother Flippers", a brand-new show, appeals to both Homer and Marge when they need money for a plasma TV after getting enthralled by Lenny's. But not everything goes entirely to plan when Homer ends up with an extremely strict and pretentious wife, and Marge ends up with a love-sick husband. Guest starring: Ricky Gervais as Charles Heathbar. "Million-Dollar Abie" April 2, 2006 Steven Dean Moore Tim Long HABF09 372 Abe accidentally ruins Springfield's chances for an NFL franchise when he mistakes an endorser who popped by the Simpsons' house for directions, for a burglar. The reaction is so profound that Abe ends up at an assisted-suicide center, and then as a bullfighter when the town turns the especially-built for football ring into a bullfighting one. Guest starring: Rob Reiner as himself. 373 "Kiss Kiss Bang Bangalore" April 9, 2006 Mark Kirkland Dan Castellaneta Deb Lacusta HABF10 It's 'all hail Homer' when the nuclear power plant gets transferred to India, Homer is chosen to work there, and upon his arrival, he gets showered with gifts. Guest starring: Richard Dean Anderson as himself. 374 "The Wettest Stories Ever Told" April 23, 2006 Mike B. Anderson Jeff Westbrook HABF11 The Frying Dutchman is the scene set for a story-telling session with the nautical theme as the Simpsons impatiently wait for an inevitably not-arriving meal - Lisa tells the story of the Mayflower voyage, Bart about mutiny in Tahiti, and Homer about capsizing cruises. 375 "Girls Just Want to Have Sums" April 30, 2006 Nancy Kruse Matt Selman HABF12 Principal Skinner's chauvinistic remark about how men are better at maths than women leads to Springfield Elementary being split in two - boys and girls on different sides of the school. Lisa finds the girls' maths not as challenging, and she masquerades as a boy, using the alias "Jake Boyman" and attends the boys' lessons. But some bullying leads to Lisa breaking, however some incongruous support from her brother lifts her spirits again. Guest starring: Frances McDormand as Melanie Upfoot. 376 "Regarding Margie" May 7, 2006 Michael Polcino Marc Wilmore HABF13 After hitting her head on a stool, and inhaling cleaner bottle fumes, Marge suffers from amnesia. Slowly, memories return, but there is a big Homer-shaped gap - well, there's no gap at all. Guest starring: Sal Bando as himself and Gene Tenace as himself. 377 "The Monkey Suit" May 14, 2006 Raymond S. Persi J. Stewart Burns HABF14 A new evolution exhibit at the museum Ned takes his kids to influences Rod and Todd, and Ned and Reverend Lovejoy form a plan to discourage evolution and introduce creationism heavily in education. Lisa heavily protests against this, and it even goes as far as she being arrested for teaching evolution to a group of schoolfriends; Homer is deemed the "missing link" in evolution. Guest starring: Melanie Griffith as herself and Larry Hagman as Wallace Brady. 378 "Marge and Homer Turn a Couple Play" May 21, 2006 Bob Anderson Joel H. Cohen HABF16 Homer and Marge are probably the most terrible marriage counsellors ever - but Isotopes player Buck Mitchell and his wife Tabitha Vixx soon require their newly-formed services when they see how great their marriage is. But, inevitably, Homer and Marge's marriage is slowly being at stake. Guest starring: Mandy Moore as Tabitha Vixx and Stacy Keach as Howard K. Duff.
