Cookie is the rancher that the Simpson family met at the Lazy I Ranch.

History

Cookie was a good friend to the Simpsons. He invited them to dinner and lived with them. He died at some point when the family were at the ranch, shown at the end when Marge points to his gravestone. It is possible that he was the rancher who Rich Texan mentioned having accidentally killed after the dance.

Trivia

Behind the Laughter

Cookie's name and personality could be either a reference to the 1991 movie City Slickers or the 2001 animated Disney movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire, which also feature Western-themed characters named Cookie. Additionally, Cookie's death could be a subtle reference to how Jim Varney (who voiced a character named Cookie in the latter film) actually passed away before Atlantis was released.
