Cultural references

  • The name is a parody of the film Coming to America.
  • The house from the Pixar film Up can be seen in the background when Lenny and Carl are monitoring Springfield from the air.
  • The chair with balloons is itself a parody of Father Adelir, who tried to fly with balloons of helium.
  • The Ogdenville citizens are descendants of Norwegian immigrants, and the episode was aired on May 17 - the day Norway celebrates its Constitution.
  • When Homer first tries Aquavit, he gets drunk immediately and his head hits the table and he says "More Aquavit Please", a parody of the "More Ovaltine Please" Line
  • During the closing of Ogdenville, the packed trucks and the grandmother placed on top of one is a literature reference to The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.
  • When the Ogdenville citizens are packing up to leave town, it is referencing "I Am Legend", even the music
  • The music played after the farm failures in Ogdenville is "The Death of Åse" From Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Grieg, a famous Norwegian composer.

Goofs

Lou's face error.
  • It seems a little strange as to why all the Ogdenvillians would go to Springfield and not neighboring cities.
  • When Chief Wiggum is at the checkpoint, he mentions to Lou that Springfield only has three police officers. Later, After the completion of the wall, five Springfield Police officers are shown in uniform, with an additional two in a SWAT element
  • In the scene where Lou is talk with Clancy, his mouth disappears for a frame.
