QuickLink
Hi Jake, could you install the QuickLink extension please? Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 12:00, 25 February 2012 (EST)
- Ok, it's installed but it does not support our editing toolbar. If you want to use it, go into preferences, click the 'Editing' tab, and uncheck all 'Beta' and 'Labs' features. The extension should then function as intended. --Jake 09:03, 26 February 2012 (EST)
- Okay, thanks again. I never really used those features anyway so I don't mind not having them :P The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 09:27, 26 February 2012 (EST)
- I have never actually been able to use QuickLink, even with the beta and lab features turned off. I have Firefox 11 on Windows 7, if that helps at all. Should I take screenshots? | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 04:12, 12 April 2012 (EDT)

Bugs
MediaWiki:Recentchangestext and Extension:WikiEditor does not work for me. AleWi 12:11, 28 February 2012 (EST)
- Could you be more specific? What exactly about those pages isn't working? -Jake 12:14, 28 February 2012 (EST)
- When I push a button or a link is nothing happening. I've testing Google Chorme and Internet Explorer on two diffrent computers but it dosen't work. It works at the "Svenska Wikisimpsons". AleWi 12:18, 28 February 2012 (EST)
- The same seems to be happening for me. I'll look into this as soon as I can! What's wrong with MediaWiki:Recentchangestext? -Jake 12:20, 28 February 2012 (EST)

List of redirects
No matter what the combination (500, 2x250, 3x100, 6x50, 15x20) I can't get to the 300th redirect on Special:ListRedirects. Any idea why?--Cook879 16:54, 28 February 2012 (EST)
- That's odd. I can't think of why that would be happening. I'll take a look at the database later and see if there's anything wrong in there. -Jake 12:10, 29 February 2012 (EST)
- Ok, this should be fixed now. Turns out MediaWiki wasn't happy about there being some redirects to merchandise wiki left over. I manually went through and removed them from the database. -Jake 01:06, 3 March 2012 (EST)
- Thanks Jake :)--Cook879 05:57, 3 March 2012 (EST)
Piwik
Hi, Merchandise and Chinese need to be removed from Piwik. Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 11:32, 29 February 2012 (EST)

External links in templates
Hi, a few times now, we've put external links into templates and they haven't shown up or even counted as an element of the template. This happened before the upgrade so it isn't that. At first i thought it was specific to the table template but it's also happened for {{QuoteEx}} I have no idea what is causing this problem so could you look into it please? Thanks, ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 12:49, 29 February 2012 (EST)

Bullet point error
Hi, when indenting bullet points with our appearance templates (see my sandbox for an example), we have two bullet points instead of an indent. Is there any way to fix this through normal means? Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 16:32, 29 February 2012 (EST)
Some things...
Hi!
The 404 page needs to be edited. The german site should be linked to Hauptseite instead of Main_Page, the swedish to Huvudsida and the chinese link should be removed.
Also in Recent Changes in the languages section on the side, "Svenska" links to "Special:Senaste_ändringarna" but it should be "Special:Senaste_ändringar". Also in the section "På andra språk" on the sidebar in the swedish wiki, the chinese is still there, and I don't know how to delete it. Thanks! FatHomerTalk 04:37, 2 March 2012 (EST)
Connecting and disconnecting
I keep connecting and disconnecting from Wikisimpsons. So does Solar, possibly Will. Do you know what's happened? | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 04:41, 4 March 2012 (EST)
- I'm connecting, disconnecting and connecting as well. Phinbart - just one of the huge Bart fans! 04:43, 4 March 2012 (EST)
- I noticed the first problems around 1 am, and concluded that the downtime was caused by a power outage near our server's data center. I was able to confirm this by going to the power company's web site. The problem was resolved just after 2 am, at which time I went to sleep. Since then, there seem to have been several intermittent power outages. These power outages seem to be causing only network problems, as the server itself has remained online through all of them according to its network graphs. (The four gaps are the power outages.) Hopefully we won't experience any more outages, but if we do, at least we'll know why. --Jake 08:46, 4 March 2012 (EST)
Explode StringFunctions

Common.js
Hi, is there any way to clean up the MediaWiki:Common.js as the page is stretched out. Also, could we have the syntax highlighted as well? Thanks, Solar Dragon (Talk • Contribs.) 11:35, 6 March 2012 (EST)
- There's really no way to clean it up other than cutting out unused code. I don't really see that as much of a problem though, as those pages are really only used by people who know what they're doing with Javascript. As for syntax highlighting, I don't really think it's possible. If you want the benefits of syntax highlighting, I'd recommend editing the JS in a proper editor on your computer and then transferring it back over to the wiki. --Jake 15:27, 6 March 2012 (EST)
- I've seen other wikis highlight syntax here for instance. Plus, they have a scrollbar in the page to stop it stretching out too. Not sure what they've used to do that but it would look better. The Solar Dragon 15:33, 6 March 2012 (EST)
- Wow, I somehow missed that extension entirely. :P It's been installed. :) I'm not sure how they're fixing the page stretching, but I'd be happy to apply the fix if you can find it. --Jake 15:43, 6 March 2012 (EST)
- I was given the code "pre { overflow: auto; }". I put it into the Common.js but it didn't seem to do anything so thought I'd ask you in case you knew what to do with it. ;) Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 09:23, 7 March 2012 (EST)

Rollbacking on German

MWSearch
Hi, could you install MWSearch, and by extension, Lucene-search please? Thanks, ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 16:03, 8 March 2012 (EST)
- I have been looking into search alternatives, but at the moment, I haven't reached a decision on which one to use. Replacing the search engine is not as simple as installing any other extension, and it's something that I will have to plan out carefully before deploying new software to the server. -Jake 12:14, 13 March 2012 (EDT)
Thumbnail images
Hi Jake, around the thumbnail images is a slightly darker shade of the main colour, of "fff9cf" while the main content's colour is "ffffe0". Could you change the colour around the thumbs to "ffffe0" please? Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 10:55, 9 March 2012 (EST)
- I believe I was able to fix it. It's hard to tell. Please let me know if it's fixed, otherwise I'll try editing a different CSS rule. :) --Jake 12:24, 13 March 2012 (EDT)
Weird userwiki stuff
Hi, when I go to UserWiki:Randomno it has a no-page content, but I can edit it and actually see the text of the no page thing (O_o). Also, when I go to User:Randomno it's in user profile style, but I use prfile not wiki. Simpsons skin width
Hi, I'm not sure if you can do this because of your knowledge with CSS, but could you try making the "simpsons" skin a little bit wider or something? If you look here, you'll notice Orville Simpson's name stays on one line, but on the simpsons skin his † goes on to the next line. A few other things are slightly squashed up too.
Also, for my tree, I need to add all of this, so it will be too large. Do you think you could make a special page or something with a very wide width so I can fit the tree on the page?
Thanks, | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 11:45, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
- Firstly, I don't see how we could increase the width. Secondly, it depends on screen size as it fits on one line for me. Thirdly, we shouldn't go changing the skin for one thing. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 12:27, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
- Okay... But still, if we don't have a widened skin, I'd still like a special page for that tree. There are LOADS of people to add, including the Bouvier family. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:37, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
- What do you mean by special page for the tree? The Solar Dragon 12:40, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
- Can't we have it scroll - both vertically and horizontally - and start it out in the right corner, where the main family are?--Cook879 13:32, 18 March 2012 (EDT)
- I suppose it can scroll horizontally, but a special page would mean the sidebar or something is removed, so there's a lot more width on the page. By the way, the tree template accepts up to 80 paremeters, so I hope the tree will fit. :| | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:52, 19 March 2012 (EDT)
- You gonna say anything on this? | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:11, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
- I don't really think we can justify modifying the entire skin at the moment. I'd recommend using a thumbnail to display that image in an article, and noting that the user can click on it to view the full version. Something like this should work: [[File:family-tree.png|thumb|700px|Click on this image to view it in full size.]] --Jake 10:17, 31 March 2012 (EDT)
- An image would be a bad idea, as with the familytree template you can move stuff around all the time. Anyway, I just hope 80 parameters will be enough. :| | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:35, 31 March 2012 (EDT)

Broken sidebar
Although it's not a really big issue, on long pages, such as List of couch gags, the sidebar stops at some point and you just see the background. Then, there is another part of the sidebar, it breaks again, and then the bottom of it is at the bottom of the page. Not sure if this is on any other pages but I'd guess other long pages like that. Thanks, (Talk - Contribs.) 06:08, 19 March 2012 (EDT)

Skins
Hi, some things about the skins:
- On the all skin but the simpsons one, they don't cover the class "roundy". This is the code used on the Golden Homer Award text.
- Vector skin does not cover plainlinks in the sitenotice.
- The monaco skin's bullet point is File:Donut.png. It should really be File:Full donut.png.

- Problem is, Phin, that the supply of IPv4 addresses is nearly exhausted. In theory IPv4 has about 4 billion (4.3 * 10^9) addresses, but only about half of them are actually available for public use due to range restrictions for special-use addresses. And in recent years, IP address usage has skyrocketed, due in part to so many mobile devices being Internet-aware and therefore needing to use the IP protocol to communicate. IPv6 has about 3.4 * 10^38 addresses, which should hold us for quite a while. :-) -- Mythigator 04:35, 4 April 2012 (EDT)

Hi, do you know whats wrong with this: Swedish Main Page? It works good on this wiki. FatHomerTalk 15:55, 8 April 2012 (EDT)
- I would double check all of the included templates, because the issue is most likely within one of them. I'm on vacation and I don't have a computer to investigate this for myself. --Jake 15:59, 8 April 2012 (EDT)
- Looking at the center tags, the issue might be with the parser. I'll take a look at it when I get back home. --Jake 16:00, 8 April 2012 (EDT)
Backups
Jake, I was wondering, should we have a backup thing for the wiki? Because we're independent, it doesn't mean that the wiki can't go down. In the worst case, we COULD lose all content. ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 08:58, 9 April 2012 (EDT)
- I'm sure Jake keeps backups.--Cook879 11:51, 9 April 2012 (EDT)
- Yeah, I'd be a pretty irresponsible webmaster if I didn't keep any backups. I always have a spare copy of the wiki ready to go on the server in the event the live site is somehow corrupted. I also download the whole site to my computer every once in a while in case something happens to the server itself. --Jake 18:14, 9 April 2012 (EDT)
Mobile main page
Do you think there's a way to make this appear as the front page on all mobile devices, with a few tweaks. Thanks, ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 11:29, 9 April 2012 (EDT)
- I don't know of any way to do this off the top of my head, but I'm sure it can be done when I get back home. Randomno did a fantastic job with the mobile version! --Jake 18:11, 9 April 2012 (EDT)
File error
Hi, Jake, I asked Solar this, but he said he had no idea what the problem is: "For some strange reason, I downloaded this image File:Do the Bartman promo art.gif as a .jpg file, but would not upload as a .jpg. There was a notice saying "This does not match the mime type (image/gif)" So, after trying twice, I uploaded it as a .gif. Do you know what the problem could be?" Here is an image of the error: File:File error.png What could the problem be? ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 10:28, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- You can't upload JPGs, or any other file type except GIFs, over GIF files, if that's what you mean. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:04, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- No, I just downloaded the image as a .jpg, put HAD to upload it as a .gif. ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 12:17, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- I dunno, then. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 12:26, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- It sounds like your computer is doing something strange if it's downloading that image as a JPG. The image is in GIF format, and the site will not allow you to change it to any other format when re-uploading it. --Jake 14:07, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- I think I know what's happened. Phinbart, you may have thought you were downloading an image as JPG, when actually you were downloading it as a GIF. Afterwards, you typed in http://simpsonswiki.net/wiki/File:Do_the_Bartman_promo_art.jpg, and tried uploading a GIF. Also, GIFs are better than JPGs, but PNGs are best overall. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 14:50, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- I prefer PNG any day. Unfortunately, my computer doesn't allow PNG, only JPEG. :( --Fred (Talk • Contribs. • Editcount) 23:29, 11 April 2012 (EDT)

Talk pages without actual pages
Hi Jake, do you know if there's any way to view a list of talk pages that don't have pages? We probably have quite a few of these which could do with deleting. Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 10:35, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- No, but I'll take a shot at writing a SQL query that could find and delete them. --Jake 14:08, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- Okay, thanks. However, you'll have to factor in talk archives as well but guess you'd know that anyway. :P The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 14:53, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- I wasn't able to delete the pages automatically due to time constraints, but I pulled out the query into this page, which should help you out. -Jake 16:01, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- Thanks, could you also add file talk pages into that too? Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 17:35, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- Done. -Jake 18:50, 10 April 2012 (EDT)

Strange "Page does not exist"
For some reason, when you hover over a red link the page name appears and then "(sidan existerar inte)". It seems to be in a different language. ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 11:42, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- It is Swedish :) FatHomerTalk 11:42, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
- On "History" pages, it's still "Page does not exist". ~ Phinbart (talk • contribs) 11:43, 10 April 2012 (EDT)
Swedish wiki files
Hi, isn't there any extension or something that can look if images are used on several wikis or something, because it's really annoying that images on the swedish wiki turn into red-links when someone here either deletes, or renames the image. The Swedish wiki is also very slow, and why can you see all images used on the wiki here: http://sv.simpsonswiki.net/w/index.php?title=Special:%C3%96nskade_filer&limit=500&offset=0 ? Dictionary wiki
Hi, please can you set up a Simpsons dictionary at http://dictionary.simpsonswiki.net, with lowercase page names like Wiktionary. I would start it off on something like Wikkii if I could, but that won't have lowercase page names, etc. Thanks, | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 08:57, 13 April 2012 (EDT)
- We had it before but we toke it away, it's now under the namespace "dictionary". /AleWi 09:23, 13 April 2012 (EDT)
- Yeah, we decided to merge it here. Randomno, in future, please open wiki discussions about this beforehand. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 09:55, 13 April 2012 (EDT)
- I know we should have a discussion, but I want to start it off, anyway. If it becomes a good wiki, there would be no reason to vote against it. The dictionary namespace hasn't been updated in over 30 days, and another wiki might make people realise we have a dictionary. I only want to open a discussion if essential, but I see no reason why we shouldn't at least try. It's not like I want to remove the Golden Homer Award, is it. The Chinese Wikisimpsons was opened without a discussion, and that was a failure, but this should get enough articles. | | Talk | Contributions | Edit count | 10:59, 13 April 2012 (EDT)
