Cultural references[edit]
- The new prisoner compares Cecil Terwilliger to Tito Jackson, the younger brother of Michael Jackson. Cecil then laments over never being compared to Michael, or even La Toya.
- Frasier and Niles Crane from Frasier are seen in the cafe Cecil visited. The characters were played by Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce respectively, who voice Sideshow Bob and Cecil Terwilliger.
- After he initially decides to kill Bart, Cecil quickly dismisses the notion, likening it to Jim Belushi's appearance in Blues Brothers 2000 as an example of someone being stuck in the shadow of their brother.
- In prison, Sideshow Bob was watching a production of Les Misérables. Bob said that Andrew Lloyd Webber must be spinning in his grave, to which a prisoner responds that Webber isn't dead, and he didn't write Les Misérables. Bob then says that it pleasant thought takes his mind off the dreadful rendition of "Master of the House".
- Mr. Largo performs "One Week" by the Barenaked Ladies when busking for money.
- Lisa plans on getting books by James Joyce, Judy Blume, and the bridge bloopers of Omar Sharif from the library.
- Comic Book Guy reveals that he now owns the library and was replacing the old books with graphic novels from The Amazing Spider-Man to Zatanna.
- The Itchy & Scratchy Show gets replaced with Jeeves and Wooster.
- Sideshow Bob writes weekly letters to The New York Review of Books.
- As part of his campaign to destroy Lisa, Cecil Terwilliger blackmails Krusty into going off the air with the aid of the nerd trio of Gary, Benjamin and Doug. As a reward, Cecil gives them tickets to William Shatner's Star Trek Memories: The Musical, starring Richard Hatch from Battlestar Galactica.
Continuity[edit]
- Cecil mentions the time he nearly flooded the town. ("Brother from Another Series")
- Doctor Colossus walks away from his now former hideout using his Colosso Boots. ("Who Shot Mr. Burns? (Part Two)")
Goofs[edit]
- In actual fact, Jim Belushi did not appear in Blues Brothers 2000; John Goodman filled the role that was originally written for Belushi.
- When Lisa thanks Gary, he says that he's Benjamin, despite actually being Gary.
