Cultural references

• The title of the episode is a parody of The Great Gatsby.
  • When Homer and Burns see there's another party in another mansion at the lake, Burns says "Great Gatsby!".
• On one of the invitations, two of the "imaginary" friends to which Smithers referred are Mr. and Mrs. Popeye T. Sailorman, a reference to Popeye The Sailor Man and his girlfriend Olive Oyl.
• "Lengthy Island" is Long Island.
  • The Springfield Hamptons are a parody of the Long Island Hamptons.
