The Last Temptation of Homer is the ninth episode of the fifth season which aired on December 9 1993. It involves Homer falling in love with a new female co-worker named Mindy Simmons (not related to Beatrice Simmons from Old Money) while Bart becomes a nerd after they realize he has a temporary eye condition called lazy eye. It features the guest voices of Michelle Pfeiffer as Mindy Simmons and Werner Klemper as Colonel Klink.

Plot
Bart plays a prank on the teachers by making all the parking space lines to close to each car not leaving enough space for the teachers to get out of their cars. Afterwards, Mrs. Krabappel blames Bart on the accident and Bart is forced to answer every question for the rest of the year as punishment. Mrs. Krabappel then tells Bart to read a word on the chalkboard and Bart has trouble. In the mean time Homer, Lenny, Carl, and Charlie use a claw to grab a workers butt however the worker is working on something important and when he is grabbed a nuclear meltdown occurs and Charlie is fired and is deported to an unknown land (possibly Saudi Arabia) and is forced to dance for the people. Anyway , Doctor Hibbert tells Marge that Bart has a lazy eye and many other disoders which is why he is an underacheiver and the only way to get rid of it tough is if Bart is turned into a nerd. Bart then becomes a stereotypical nerd and is picked on by the bullies. In the mean time Mr. Burns has just hired an illegal alien named Zutroy and is forced to hire one female employee. Mr. Burns then hires one named Mindy Simmons and Homer quickly has a spot for her and has Mindy based hallucinations and is obsessing over her hinting that he is falling in love with her. Homer then goes home and finds his family all worn out and goes to Moe's and Barney tells Homer to try to split up with Mindy after reading a bar napkin with the advice. Homer tries to split up with Mindy but fails when he finds out she likes dougnuts, beer, and TV. Meanwhile, Bart is losing his cool and Martin is able to show Bart the hideout where all nerds go to in order to escape bullies. Mr. Burns is now trying to find out which two employees will go to the energy convention in Capital City but all of them are getting along terribly except for Homer and Mindy and to make matters worse they have to go together. Back at home Marge tells Bart his two weeks of nerdiness is up and Bart goes back to school but the bullies still beat him up anyway. In Capital City Homer and Mindy are sharing the same room in the same hotel and win the energy convention and are crowned King and Queen of Energy and win a prize to Madame Chao's Chinese Resteraunt the sexiest one in Capital City. There Homer gets a fortune cookie saying he will find happiness with a new love and Homer fears he marry Mindy. Back at the hotel Mindy and Homer have a long talk and Homer confesses his fear and Mindy says it is okay and then Homer falls asleep and Marge comes to the hotel and Homer sings a song to her and they are annoyed by the hotel worker but Homer knocks him out and it is unknown what happens to Mindy.

- Lisa barely appears in this episode, while Maggie doesn't appear at all.
- Werner Klemper who voices Colonel Klink in this episode did not use Klink's real voice. He instead used the director's immation of Klink as he frogot how Klink talked like after Hogan's Heroes was cancelled.
- The duck who works at the nuclear power plant is named Stuart.
- Smilin' Joe Fission from Homer's Odyssey appears on the sign behind Homer and Mindy in the energy convention.
- The sign at the hotel says Capital City Hotel disease free since 1990.
- Barry White's song "Can't Get Enough of You Babe" was last heard in Whacking Day.
- The trees in Homer's vision of Marge living in the white house look just like her hair.
- The Man with the very large hand is voiced by Dan Castellaneta and Dan actually uses his regular voice.
- The guy in the radiation suit in the beginning looks just like Homer when he is wearing it in the theme song.
- Capital City was last featured in Dancin' Homer.
Errors
- Charlie who is deported to another land in this episode still appears in later episodes. It is unknown how he got back.

- "The Last Temptation of Christ" Titles parodies the novel.
- "The Nutty Professor" Bart's nerd voice and look resembles Jerry Lewis in that movie.
- "Mandy" The song Homer sings about Mindy and Marge at the end sounds just like it.
- "Big Apple" Capital City is named the "Windy Apple" a reference to New York City's nickname the "Big Apple".
