- The episode title is most likely a reference to the novel and film The Princess Bride.
- Homer mentions The Dirty Dozen, Twelve Angry Men and X-Men.
- Richard Branson is Mr. Burns neighbor. His house has the Virgin Group logo everywhere.
- Homer and Princess Kemi stay at Four Seasons, a well known hotel chain.
- Princess Kemi wants to go out instead of staying at the hotel and Homer mentions that famous American nightclubs Studio 54, CBGB and Roxbury are all already gone.
- Homer makes Princess Kemi watch The Bachelor, a real reality TV show.
- Kemi asks Moe whether he is familiar with Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe, and she also mentions two of his novels Things Fall Apart and No Longer at Ease.
