Cultural references

  • The episode title is a pun on the film The Parent Trap.
  • As the out-of-control police cruiser heads toward the hot soup truck, the police dog in the back covers his eyes and says, "Ruh-oh!" in a similar manner to Scooby-Doo.
  • Lisa mentions that, as a result of creative sentencing, Bill Clinton is their mailman.
  • "Dang Me" by Roger Miller is the song playing on the car radio at the end of the episode.
  • In addition to the $40 prize for the winning the radio contest, Homer receives a Blue Öyster Cult medallion.
  • "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by B.O.C. is also played over the closing credits.
  • Judge Constance Harm says that she would read Hemingway if she wanted a cock and bull story. This is a reference to Hemingway's novella, The Sun Also Rises, which involves an impotent war veteran and a matador.

Trivia

  • Professor Frink nearly runs over Bart and Milhouse with his Hover bike. The bike was first seen in Lemon of Troy.
  • The Miranda Rights teleprompter in the police cruiser instructs officers to say, "You have the right to remain silent," then to "(Punch in belly)."
  • Outside the Juvenile Courthouse is a statue of Blind Justice, depicting a little girl wearing a blindfold while holding a scale in one hand and a sword in the other.
  • Jimbo Jones can be seen outside the courtroom with a lawyer and his mother, waiting to go before Judge Snyder.
  • Homer's burglar outfit is similar to the one he wears while stealing Moe's car in Dumbbell Indemnity and when smuggling sugar in Sweets and Sour Marge.
  • Judge Constance Harm indicates she was born male when she tells Bart he reminds her of herself when she was a little boy.
  • In this episode, Judge Snyder's first name is revealed to be Roy.

Goofs

Homer's white tongue
  • When Homer goes to sleep in Mrs. Krabappel's class, his tongue's palette color changes from pink to white.
  • In the United States, cars are positioned on the right-hand side of the road. However, when Homer and Marge are getting spanked by the public, the cars come from the left-hand side.
  • After Marge and Homer cheer, Lisa’s arm turns pink for a split second.
