La Règle du jeu (translated to English title: The Rules of the Game) is a 1939 French romantic comedy-drama film by Jean Renoir. It's considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. The picture is notable for being on of the rare times that actual original footage of a film is used on The Simpsons.

History

In the episode Love Is a Many-Splintered Thing Woody Allen took Bart and Mary Spuckler to a screening of La Règle du Jeu at the Springfield Moviehouse, however, much to Woody Allen's disappointment, the duo fell asleep.
