Cultural references
- Signs of Barack Obama 2012 presidential campaign and Mitt Romney 2012 presidential campaign can be seen in Springfield.
- When Homer is chosing between Obama and Romney, he says that Romney uses "Magic Underpants". This is a reference to the time a tweet of Mitt Romney wearing Mormon underwear was accidentally posted. In the tweet, the Mormon underwear was referred to as "Magic Underwear", which is considered an offensive and misleading term in the Mormon community.
- Homer also refers to Rafalca, a horse co-owned by Ann Romney (Mitt Romney's wife), and its participation in Equestrian at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
- Homer mentions Obamacare, and thinks that it was actually Romney who invented it.
Trivia
- This short precedes the episode "Adventures in Baby-Getting". The one change made is that Selma falls down the tube and not Ned. Also, the scenes after that in the short are cut.
Continuity
- The short is very similar to the opening sequence of "Treehouse of Horror XIX" and reuses some footage from it. However, the speech is different and there is a different voting booth scene and ending.
Goofs
- Alice Glick is seen in the short, despite the fact she is dead in the episode "Replaceable You" from season 23.
