Synopsis

Captain Horatio McCallister tells the tale of sailor Elijah Dunn and the one-armed nun, Sister Mary Catherine.

Plot

When Captain McCallister was on a ship one night, he and the crew heard a scream. He thought the scream was from Elijah Dunn, who was a sailor who became a terrible ship's cook. Elijah's only friend was a parrot called Arthur, who was a drunk. When Elijah had sunk to rock bottom, he met Sister Mary Catherine. Mary Catherine was on a mission to minister to the nearly unwealthy. She lost her arm during her days as a competitive lumberjack. When Elijah saw her, he went all out in cooking a decent meal. After the meal, Elijah proposed to Mary.

Mary called Elijah a nitwit as she was a nun. But Elijah didn't back down. When she kept refusing, and the crew aboard the ship called him crazy for wanting to marry a nun, Elijah jumped onto the rails of the ship. He then told Mary that they would be married by the sea herself. When Mary Catherine refused, Elijah asked her to help him get back down then. However, he slipped and fell off the boat. As he fell, he declared revenge on "two-armers".

Back in the present, Captain McCallister realized that Elijah's revenge had come to pass as they had lost Hornpipe Joe.
