Cultural references
- Elements of the plot loosely resemble Bridge to Terabithia and the Peter Jackson film Heavenly Creatures, in particular the scenes where the girls imagine themselves in their fantasy world and how Marge bans Lisa from seeing her friend Juliet, who is loosely based on Juliet Hulme. Also, the girls obsession with Josh Groban mirrors the obsession of the girls in Heavenly Creatures with opera singer Mario Lanza. The song "Wipeout" was played while their visit to the Folk Art Museum (although the wipeout at the beginning was replaced by folk art).
- The songs by Josh Groban played in the episode are, in chronological order: "You Are Loved (Don't Give Up)", "So She Dances" and "In Her Eyes".
- Juliet, in appearance, resembles Thora Birch's character in the film Ghost World.
- When Lisa is getting candy, Bart suggests M&M's and Charleston Chew. Apu then suggests Almond Joy.
- The song playing whilst Lisa and Juliet are in the Springfield Folk Art Museum is "Wipe Out" by The Surfaris.
- Professor Hobbes plays James Horner's soundtrack to The Pelican Brief at dinner.
- When Willie remembers coming to America, "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin plays.
Trivia
- This is the last episode before the HD intro movie appears.
- This is the last episode to use the 1987-2009 Gracie Films logo.
Goofs
- At dinner, when Lisa runs out to see Juliet in her backyard, Lisa is wearing her pink Sunday best dress, then the scene cuts to Lisa and Juliet in a fantasy sequence with the characters from Equalia, but when the scene cuts back to reality, Lisa is wearing her regular red dress.
