- The title and basic plot are both references to the 1998 comedy The Truman Show.
- In describing The Homer Show, one of the FOX executives says that it's going to be big, "Urkel big".
- When the FOX executives are trying to find a spot in their programming to air The Homer Show, one of the executives suggests that they replace Millenium.
