School Is Hell
- The segment title refers to one of the Life in Hell series of books written by Matt Groening.
- The blackboard in hell has repeated multiple times, "Eternal torment is the only just punishment for the unbaptized", a belief held by Saint Augustine, who applied it to babies.
- The Docetan heresy is mentioned.
A Clockwork Yellow
- The segment is a parody of A Clockwork Orange.
- Moe is a parody of Alex.
- Marge is seen reading the novel A Clockwork Orange.
- Stanley Kubrick, director of the film, made an appearance in the segment.
- One of the "nasties" put into the hat is "Tell Each 'Doctor Who' They're the Worst".
