The bears that live in Springfield appear randomly throughout the series. They normally live in the woods but have been known to wander into town and cause trouble. In The Call of the Simpsons Maggie is taken in by a family of bears while the rest of the family has to live on there own out in the woods. They brought her all kinds of toys and kept her warm at night, proving that they are not all mean. In the end they were sad to see her go but as a parting gift she gave one of them one of her pacifiers. In Much Apu About Nothing, a bear appears at Evergreen Terrace, but seems pacific. Affraid, the citizens pressioned Mayor Quimby, making he create an Anti-Bear patrol.
