The Itchy & Scratchy Show Episode Information
|
"The Beagle Has Landed" is an episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show. The episode marked the debut of Poochie.
Plot
Itchy and Scratchy are in a car together, on their way to the fireworks factory. As they drive, they pass several signs indicating how much further it is to the factory, and showing that they're getting closer and closer. They stop to pick up a hitchhiker, who turns out to be new character Poochie (voiced by Homer Simpson). He goes on a long rap to introduce himself and illustrate how "hip" and "extreme" he is and also how much attitude he has—as seen by his wearing sunglasses and riding a bicycle up the side of a half-pipe to slam-dunk a basketball. Poochie finishes by telling children watching to always recycle to the extreme, and then takes off in Itchy's and Scratchy's car and drives past the fireworks factory.
Reaction
The cartoon was instantly despised by both the kids and adults of Springfield. A tearful Milhouse was disappointed that Itchy and Scratchy never got to the fireworks factory. Comic Book Guy later proclaimed it to be the "Worst. Episode. Ever!" Kent Brockman panned the episode on Channel 6 News in his commentary segment, "My Two Cents", referring to Poochie as "howlingly unfunny" and concluding his remarks with "I have a feeling that no children are gonna be crying when this puppy's put to sleep."
