First appearance: "The Bart Wants What It Wants"

Michael Dukakis is an American politician. He is a former governor of Massachusetts and was the losing candidate in the 1988 U.S. presidential election.

History

Rainier Wolfcastle jokes with Homer, telling him that Lisa is a "whale-kissing, Dukakis-hugging moon maiden".[1]

One of the businesses seen in Springfield Mall is Dukakis Campaign H.Q..[2]

Lisa had a nightmare in which Dukakis, John Kerry and Walter Mondale appeared to her in ghostly forms.[3]

Behind the laughter

The significance of the three men appearing in Lisa's "losers" nightmare is that all three are Democrats who lost U.S. presidential elections: Dukakis in 1988, Kerry in 2004 and Mondale in 1984.
