The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is an agency of the USA government, responsible for the nation's civilian space program and aeronautics and aerospace research.
History
Wanting to raise the ratings for shuttle launching, which had decreased, the NASA tried to look for a normal man whom the average American can relate to send into space. They eventually received a call from Homer asking why their launches are so boring and, after hearing his demands, they realized he is perfect for their mission of raising ratings. Two NASA agents went to Moe's Bar to talk to Homer, but he told them Barney called them. They were both sent to the NASA headquarters to apply them normal astronaut tests. At first, people thought this was a joke, as normal people aren't qualified to be astronauts. However, Barney successfully passed all tests and was chosen to be sent into space with Buzz Aldrin and Race Banyon. But he ultimately escaped on a jetpack, so Homer was chosen instead. When they were finally launched into space, Homer crashed into the ant colony, ruining their experiment about ants transporting screws in space. This caused the NASA launching have the highest rating in 20 years. However, Homer later broke the shuttle's door, but managed to return to the Earth locking the door using an Inanimate carbon rod.
Moe once had to send Barney's bar tab to the NASA. When the results came, Moe told Barney he owed him 14 billion dollars.
