Cultural references[edit]
- The title is a parody of the 1987 film Adventures in Babysitting.
- Comic Book Guy mentions that the sinkhole is larger than the Sarlacc Pit which swallowed Boba Fett but is smaller than the Geonosis Battle Arena where Jango Fett was beheaded by Mace Windu, all references to Star Wars.
- The news caption for the sink hole, "Sink-O De Mayo", is a pun on cinco de mayo.
- Tissan is a parody of Nissan.
- The shop Crouching Panda Hidden Egg Roll is a parody of the film title Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
- When Father Mike appears, Bing Crosby's "Too Ra Loo Ra Loo Ral" plays.
- Marge looks up Stan on his Facebook page to see that he had no kids.
- When Marge can't get the car started and Homer says "Let Automobile von Bismarck give it a try," he is parodying the name of 19th century German statesman Otto von Bismarck.
- Milhouse referenced the Treehouse of Horror episodes when he exited the treehouse after being mocked by Nelson, in particular the original "Treehouse of Horror".
- The motel sign "M. Night Shyamalan's FLOP HOUSE," a play on the meaning of flophouse, is a reference to that director's string of less-than-successful movies.
- The igloo-shaped motel "The Nook of the North" (subtitled, "An Ice Place to Visit") is a reference to the film, Nanook of the North.
Trivia[edit]
- The opening sequence has been replaced with a variation of the short Homer Votes 2012. The changes are instead of Ned Flanders being deposited out of the tube next to Homer, Selma Bouvier is instead. Also, Homer doesn't run and jump out of the window.
- The number plate on Marge's new car is PABF18, the production code for this episode.
- When the scene shifts underground, the Tracey Ullman shorts Simpsons can be seen dead.
- Across the street from the Flop House is a "Krusty's Hot Tub" sign showing Krusty sitting in a hot tub, looking through binoculars at the woman sitting across from him, who is flashing her chest at him.
- The room key at the "Doghouse Motor Lodge" is on a dog collar.
Continuity[edit]
- Moe mentions the Springfield Monorail going out of control. ("Marge vs. the Monorail")
- When imagining what Lisa is up to, Bart imagines Angelica Button fighting Lord Evilton. ("The Haw-Hawed Couple")
- Bart brings in Lisa's former boyfriends to help find out what Lisa is up to. He brings in Ralph ("I Love Lisa"), Nelson ("Lisa's Date with Density") and Milhouse.
- Homer was sterile in "Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes?".
Goofs[edit]
- The sound of the water dripping into the cavern filled with water at about 02:24 into the episode sounds BEFORE the drop of water actually falls into the pool of water.
- Rocks cover the holes at the bottom of the cavern when the water goes further into the ground, but when Marge's car falls in, the rocks have disappeared - the floor is flat.
- The scene in which the vehicle covered up the sink hole has an animation goof. When it marks on the road markings, the marking in front of it has already been done and it isn't marking the road markings where it should be marking them. The animation corrects itself when the road markings are nearly done.
- Richard moves from an aisle seat on the left of the school bus to a window seat on the right in about a second.
- When Bart looks out of the treehouse after Milhouse has fell off it, the view from the treehouse makes it look like the treehouse is closer to the ground than it previously was.
- Marge already knew that Homer was sterile in "Eight Misbehavin'".
- In the final scene where they are at the drive-in, their original car has returned.
