Episode Information
|
"The Star of the Backstage" is the upcoming 1st episode of season 33 of The Simpsons. It will air on September 26, 2021.[1][2][3][9]
Synopsis
- "A musical comes to life in Springfield as Marge stages a revival of her beloved high school show - but her wonderful memories are threatened by the return of a rival from the past.[4]"
It will be a musical episode with all original Broadway caliber songs.[10] Laney Fontaine won't be in it.[11] It will be a flashback, taking place in the time when Helen Lovejoy was teenager.[12][13][14] Barney will be in it in a high school musical.[15][16]
Marge has amazing memories of being the stage manager of her high school musical, Y2K: The Millennium Bug, and decides to restage it with everyone 20 years later for one last show. But when her old high school nemesis comes to town, she realizes that her high school memories aren't what she thought they were. The only place Marge sang beautifully was in her head, so she has a magical inside singing voice that only we can hear. When she sings, it comes out beautiful, like Kristen Bell.[17]
Production
The episode was originally named "No Day but Yesterday".[1][9]
During the San Diego Comic-Con At Home 2021 panel, a preview of one of the songs was shown. The image has Homer in his underpants singing whilst Marge looks annoyed. Later it was revealed that 7 songs will be present in the episode and that one of the song is named A Delicate Approach.[18][19]
CXG composer Jack Dolgen wrote the music for this episode.[17]
