Cultural references
- The story's title is a pun on Fahrenheit 451, a 1953 dystopian sci-fi novel by Ray Bradbury. The book and its plot are referred to a number of times throughout the story.
- Lisa tells Bart that he was supposed to be reading the novel for his book report, to which Bart responds that he'll simply watch the movie instead.
- Lisa takes the idea of memorizing every Itchy & Scratchy episode for future generations from the book.
- After the group has recounted a few of their favorite episodes, the movie can be seen playing on the television.
- The Itchy & Scratchy episode that Kent Brockman interrupts is titled "The Buck Chops Here", a play on the phrase "the buck stops here".
- Kent mentions being "up for an Emmy".
- Professor Frink briefly makes reference to Erwin Schrödinger and his famous thought experiment.
- Bart mentions having a number of Itchy & Scratchy episodes on his "ePhone", a parody of the iPhone.
- The cartoon Lisa recounts is a parody of Bride of Frankenstein.
- The comic's ending, wherein the now significantly aged children are living on a houseboat, is a reference to the movie Waterworld. One of their grandchildren asks if electricity is what made the "icebergs" melt. Melting icecaps were the cause of the rising sea levels in the movie.
Trivia
- According to this comic, there are 851 "Itchy & Scratchy" cartoons.
Continuity
- The cartoon that Martin shares is said to have come from a time when the producers "attempted to purge ultra-violence from children's programming", referring to the episode "Itchy & Scratchy & Marge".
- "The Buck Chops Here" was first seen in the episode "Burns' Heir".
- Bart says that his friends should spend all their time protecting him since he has memorized every single Itchy & Scratchy episode. Lisa says that she also knows every episode, as well as the movie, in reference to the episode "Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie".
