When Homer and Mel Gibson were talking in Gibson's office, a picture of William Wallace appears on the wall.[1]

When Willie was talking about Scottish independence, he commented that he could be a person to stand in the tradition of William Wallace and Andy Murray.[2]

His first appearance is a reference to the real-world movie Braveheart where Mel Gibson plays William Wallace.
