Bring Your Parents to School Day is a Bart Simpson Comics story that first appeared in Bart Simpson #14. The story was later reprinted in the Big Beefy Book of Bart Simpson. In the UK it was released in Bart Simpson #14.

Synopsis

It's "Bring Your Parents to School Day" at Springfield Elementary. As the day goes by, Bart is increasingly embarrassed by Homer's oafish behavior, but reaps an unexpected benefit from it.

Plot

It's "Bring Your Parents to School Day" at Springfield Elementary, and a number of students and parents (among them Bart and Homer) are seated in Mrs. Krabappel's classroom. Over the intercom, Principal Skinner gives a general welcome to everyone. However, he too has brought his mother to school for the day. She criticizes Skinner's diction and posture, and the two of them get into an argument over the open mike. The argument annoys Mrs. Krabappel, but amuses the students and parents in her classroom.

As the school day gets underway at 8:00 a.m., Bart gives Homer the lowdown on how to behave in the classroom, telling him to avoid eye contact with the teacher, and, above all, to not embarass him. Homer replies that it won't be a problem—"It'll be like shooting pork in a barrel", as he puts it, misquoting the expression "shooting fish in a barrel".

At 9:00 a.m., Homer has interrupeted the discussion, this time to go on a tirade about Gilligan's Island. Bart envisions Homer as a big dumb-looking ape and reminds him that they're talking about the War of 1812. Bart is embarrassed by Homer's tangent, but everyone else thinks it's funny.

An hour later, Homer has again interrupted the classroom discussion, this time to tell a fart joke. However, as he delivers the punchline, everyone fails to get any laughs. Bart sees him as a loudly braying donkey and pleads with him to shut up.

At 11:00 a.m., Homer needs a restroom break and gets stuck trying to get up from his desk. Bart, envisioning Homer as an elephant, hides his face in his hands.

At 1:00 p.m., Homer bends over his desk with his butt facing the room, snorting and belching as he devours a bowl full of lunch leftovers that Lunchlady Doris was going to throw away. Everyone in the room is disgusted, Ned Flanders to the point that he holds up a cross in a warding-off gesture directed at Homer's posterior. Bart, for his part, is even more embarrassed than before and now sees Homer as a pig.

By 2:00 p.m., Homer has fallen asleep and is snoring loudly, annoying everyone and causing Bart to envision him as a hibernating bear. Bart puts his head down on his desk and laments, "Will this day never end?"

The next day, Mrs. Krabappel is returning some graded reports to the class, and Bart's has received a grade of C+. She says she's surprised at how well Bart did on his report, whose topic was "The Similarities between Man and Beast". Bart, pleased with the grade but still embarassed from the previous day's events, replies that he had some unexpected inspiration.
