Character traits[edit]
Larry is referred to as the ear bender. He is talked about as being stupid, glum and weird. Larry is a patron and barfly at Moe's Tavern. He rarely speaks. He is one of the people in Moe's Tavern who ogles Marge Simpson. Larry is the tallest of the barflies; he has little black streaks of hair and wears a red jacket. When Homer finishes abstaining from alcohol for 30 days, but Marge does not want him go out drinking right away, Homer replies, "But Marge, the barflies are expecting me. Moe and Barney and that guy who calls me Bill." which may or may not be him or Sam.[2]
Larry supposedly had a love of fishing and constantly talked to his mother about his friends from Moe's.[1]
Jewel smuggling and death[edit]
At some point, Larry started smuggling stolen gems across the northern border for Fat Tony by hiding them up his butt. After one smuggling operation, Larry died in Moe's Tavern before he could deliver the sapphires to Fat Tony. Larry was then cremated and the sapphires survived the process, getting put in the urn with his remains. After Larry's funeral at Mourning Glory Funeral Home, his mother, Iris Dalrymple, gave Homer, Moe, Lenny, and Carl Larry's diary, where they found a picture of the five of them in front of a waterfall. The four barflies then decided to scatter Larry's ashes at the waterfall, which Carl identified as Serenity Falls.
Along the journey, the gang stopped at Acceptable 8 to stay the night. The next morning, Homer accidentally knocked over Larry's ashes and revealed the sapphires inside the urn. Moe entered the bathroom and saw the sapphires too and decided that he and Homer would split the money from them between the two of them, without telling Lenny and Carl. As they continued on their way to Serenity Falls, Larry's urn fell out of the back of the van and the ashes and sapphires scattered over the road. As Homer and Moe tried to gather them up quickly, they were stopped by a police officer who arrested them for jewel smuggling.
Unfortunately for the barflies, it turned out the police officer was really Mickey No-Loose-Ends, a mafioso for Fat Tony who was sent to collect the sapphires. As Mickey went to kill them, Homer shot a flare gun which he found in the frunk of Mickey's car, which caused the car to roll downhill and stop over a cliff. As the barflies tried and jump out of the car together, Homer got left behind in the car as it rolled down the cliff. However, Mickey was knocked unconscious by a falling tree and Larry's urn rolled down the hill and got wedged in the wheel arch, stopping the vehicle and saving Homer's life. When the barflies looked at Serenity Falls, where the car stopped, they realized that it wasn't actually the waterfall in the picture. Homer then realized that the waterfall was actually on a Duff Beer motion sign (based on a Hamm's scene-O-rama) in Moe's Tavern, so they went back to Moe's and left Larry's urn on his bar stool. It also turned out that Moe had managed to hide the sapphires up his own butt so he could keep them for himself.[1]
