Movie Information
|
A Kiss Before Frying is an old black-and-white movie which Marge Simpson saw on TV.
Plot[edit]
The movie's main character is Johnny Stabbo, who has been sentenced to death in the electric chair and is on Death Row awaiting execution. Johnny tells everyone he is not afraid to die because he is certain that his mother will visit him. The days go by, Johnny's mother does not come, the execution date finally arrives, and a priest comes to minister to Johnny just before he's due to die in the chair. Johnny declines the priest's counsel, still insisting that his mother will come. When the prison guards escort him to the execution chamber, however, Johnny's mother is not in the gallery of witnesses. The movie ends with Johnny calling out in vain for his mother as the guards strap him into the chair and throw the switch to electrocute him.
Reaction[edit]
Before she saw the movie, Marge had been in a bank robbery and persuaded Dwight the robber to surrender peacefully when she promised to visit him in prison. However, she did not follow through, finding excuse after excuse to delay going to the prison. The movie made Marge feel very guilty about not keeping her promise to Dwight, due in part to Johnny Stabbo's bearing a strong resemblance to Dwight.
Behind the Laughter[edit]
- The movie's title is a pun on A Kiss Before Dying.
- Johnny Stabbo's prison number, JABF19, is the same as the episode's production code.
