Comic Story information

Ralph's Room is a Simpsons Comics One-Shot Wonders story first printed in Ralph Wiggum Comics #1.
Synopsis[edit]
Ralph's class has a costume-making contest. Ralph's entry draws mixed reviews from his fellow students, but impresses the people who matter.
Plot[edit]
In Ralph's class at Springfield Elementary School, Miss Hoover announces a contest: everyone will design and build a paper costume, and the best one will get a first-place ribbon. Ralph asks if he can be his cat, Mittens. Miss Hoover tells him to use his imagination as she begins passing out paper and glue to the students.
Janey Powell says she'll be a princess, and Lisa says she'll be Ms. Liberty. Ralph says he'll be a horse, then changes his mind and says two horses, as he steps on his glue bottle and the glue squirts onto the floor. Miss Hoover drily tells Ralph he can be three horses if he wants. Ralph misses the sarcasm, however, and says, "Mommy, Mommy! My bottle of glue likes my foot!" as the bottle gets stuck to one of his feet and he steps into the spilled glue with the other one. Miss Hoover corrects Ralph ("I am not your mom") and groans "Oh no, it begins!" to herself as Ralph trips and falls on top of the rolled-up paper intended for his costume. While struggling to get up, Ralph gets wrapped up in the paper and asks, "Do I look like a horse yet?"
Eventually everyone finishes their costumes. Lisa and Allison Taylor, who has made a set of butterfly wings, admire each other's costumes, and Lisa says she's sure she'll win. Just then, Principal Skinner (holding a blue ribbon) and Miss Hoover come to judge the costumes. As they look in Lisa's direction, Skinner says, "That's a perfect costume!" and Miss Hoover adds, "It's just adorable!" Lisa grins in triumph, thinking she's won, but as she starts to deliver a thank-you speech, Skinner and Hoover walk past her. Skinner says, "And we have a winner!" and Hoover concurs, saying, "I agree. Who would have thought it!" as Lisa tries to get them to look at her again.
The view pans out to show that Ralph is completely wrapped in paper and has received the blue ribbon for first place. Lisa sighs in dismay and an unnamed boy in a Napoleon costume looks disgusted with the outcome of the contest, but Allison and another boy (costumed as a Pilgrim) look pleased. A third unnamed boy, who has made a banana costume, doesn't seem to care, but just repeatedly says, "I'm a banana!" Skinner says, "Best mummy costume ever!" as he walks away. Ralph, however, still thinks he's made a horse costume and says "Hop! Hop! I'm a horse! No, I'm two horses!" as he walks around the room.
