Thanks to a fine [[Mr. Burns]] had to pay for illegally dumping [[radioactive waste]] in a playground, Springfield came into possession of $3,000,000 (though [[Mayor Quimby]] attempted to pocket a million dollars for himself). A town meeting was held to decide what to do with the money. The townspeople were on the verge of adopting [[Marge Simpson]]'s proposal to use the money to repair Main Street, when a man named [[Lyle Lanley]] interrupted the meeting and suggested using it to buy one of his monorails. Lanley's sales pitch trumped Marge's proposal, and the town built the monorail. Some people voiced concerns about the practicality of a monorail in Springfield, but Lanley deftly skirted around their questions. [[Homer Simpson]] became the conductor of the Monorail, chosen at random after an "extensive 3 week training course", which actually consisted solely of the meaning of the monorail's name (mono= one; rail= rail).

=== North Haverbrook ===
[[Marge]] was not convinced by Lanley's charm and decided to go to [[North Haverbrook]] to see what a monorail had done for their town. She arrived to see the monorail in ruins and North Haverbrook a veritable ghost town, devastated by "one of the crappiest trains ever built", and learned that Lanley had deliberately cut every corner possible and then skipped town with all of the leftover money. The result: North Haverbrook's monorail crashed almost instantly, causing tremendous property damage and loss of life.

=== Maiden Voyage ===
On the day of the maiden voyage, Lyle Lanley escaped from Springfield with the money he'd "saved" from cost-cutting. Soon after, the monorail went out of control, unable to stop because it was solar powered and the braking system was broken. The passengers were saved when Homer Simpson used the letter "M" (from the word "Monorail" in the door signage) as an improvised anchor. Homer threw the M (tied to the monorail by a rope) out the window and it became stuck in a giant advertising donut, bringing the monorail to a stop.

Lyle Lanley was later attacked by an angry mob in North Haverbrook when his escape plane touched down there briefly. The Springfield Monorail was demolished, but the station was not, and it is currently now in ruin and a target for vandals. The abandoned station has since became a popular tourist destination site.

Springfield originally existed before 1649 as Sprynge-Fielde, founder and foundation period unknown.

In its early days, the city was the target of many Native American Indian raids, and to this day many forts and trading posts remain (including [[Fort Springfield]] and [[Fort Sensible]]). It was also the site of two battles during the American Civil War. After the city was founded should the population determine what the town would be called, there was a tie between Maudville and Blister City. In [[Jebediah Springfield]] first offical act as a mayor broke the tied and named the town to Springfield in honor of his father.<ref name="history">"[[The Legend of Jebediah Springfield]]"</ref>

The second (or official) founder of Springfield was pioneer Jebediah Springfield, widely celebrated in the town as a brave and proud American hero. He famously once killed a bear with his bare hands, and this deed is immortalized in a bronze statue in front of the city hall. However, revisionist historians have since determined that the bear in fact probably killed Springfield, and not vice-versa. The town motto "a noble spirit embiggens the smallest man" is attributed to Jebediah. During the early 1900s, Springfield started a holiday named "[[Whacking Day (holiday)|Whacking Day]]" with the intention of beating up Irish immigrants in Springfield, and eventually transformed into an event where Springfield's denizens beat several snakes to death. In the mid-20th century, the city reached perhaps the pinnacle of its success when it became the home of the Aquacar, a car which could be driven in water like a boat. At this point, the city's streets were literally paved with gold. During [[Homer Simpson|Homer Simpson's]] tenure as Springfield's Sanitation Commissioner, however, the whole town was relocated "five miles down the road" and reformed, as the previous location had become flooded with garbage and waste due to Homer's allowing other cities to dump their garbage into the mines that run under the town. Bart accidentally moons the U.S. flag, and the Simpsons appear on a talk show to explain the matter. However, the show's host makes it appear that Springfield hates America. When the rest of the U.S. reciprocates this loathing, Mayor Quimby changes the name of Springfield to "Liberty-Ville". The town has split at least twice. Once based on area code changes, into [[New Springfield]] and Olde Springfield (Not to be confused with the [[Olde Springfield Towne|historical site/tourist center of the same name]]).

At one point in the town's history, gambling was legalized due to an economic slump. To attract more people into the town, Springfield legalized gay marriage. The majority of the populace is also quite horrible at paying tax returns, with the majority of the population waiting until the last possible day to file their tax returns as evidenced by the huge amount of lines at the Post Office on Tax Day, with [[Otto Man|some]] even mistaking it for a Metallica concert line, [[Kent Brockman|some]] hiring accountants who are just as bad as themselves in regards to paying taxes on time, and [[Homer Simpson|some]] even falsifying many of their actual expenditures while undergoing a last minute rundown on tax returns, misshaping the envelope containing the tax returns, and eventually being arrested by the FBI/IRS for severe audits.<ref>"[[The Trouble With Trillions]]"</ref> Mayor Quimby apparently allows Montgumery Burns so much legal freedom because he is the towns sole tax payer.<ref>"[[The Fool Monty]]"</ref>

[[Lisa Simpson]] and [[Colin]] spearheaded an effort to clean [[Lake Springfield]], which was heavily polluted. After a town-wide cleanup, the lake was polluted again single handily by [[Homer Simpson]], who dumped a large silo of "pig crap" into the lake, polluting it to unsurpassed levels. To keep the pollution from spreading to other towns, [[Russ Cargill]], head of the EPA, convinced [[President Arnold Schwarzenegger]] to seal Springfield inside a gigantic dome (built by a company owned by Cargill).

During that time, the town fell into ruin and was plagued by power shortages ([[Mr. Burns]] refused to give free power) and lack of supplies. The town was trapped under the dome for more than ninety-three days. The dome was later destroyed by [[Homer]] and [[Bart]] Simpson, and the town was repaired and rebuilt.

Visitors from elsewhere are advised to constantly wear radiation suits and carry Geiger counters, since the city is perhaps the most radioactive in the U.S. This is because the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant was built during an incredibly lax period for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in which the plant's nuclear core was surrounded not by several layers of protective concrete and graphite but by ordinary plaster with a horseshoe hanging from a nail. Also, management apparently gives employees benefits for storing nuclear waste in buildings; in some episodes, barrels of waste have been seen in the Simpsons' basement. Also perhaps due to this, the book reports that international law forbids shipping produce from Springfield; those who do venture into a local supermarket or farmer's market may find that it gives off a barely audible hum. Springfield is also "proudly" home to the state's largest tire fire, which has been continuously burning for approximately 42 years, which does nothing to improve the air quality.

Springfieldians have a very uncaring attitude towards the environment. ''[[The Springfield Shopper]]'' is proud of the fact that they use absolutely no recycled material in their paper. Even the mention of the word can cause one of the town residents to pass out from boredom, or at least slam the door in the face of plucky little girls concerned about the state of their town without a second thought, or even throw anything they can get their hands on at the Green Day raft just for saying that they wanted to talk about it. In fact, the only time they even seemed to care is literally when they drink it.

There have also been instances of accidental pollution, such as when Captain Horatio McCallister [[Bart After Dark|once]] crashed an oil tanker around the Springfield coast in a drunken stupor. McCallister also, while still drunk, seemed to think there was no way out of the predicament until he suggested to a newscaster to take the blame for him in the middle of a live broadcast.

The geographic location of Springfield is never stated, but Springfield is generally considered to depict, in a lampooning manner, "bread-and-butter" Middle America, culturally somewhere between a suburb and a small town. Springfieldians are not, for the most part, cosmopolitan, and most are of lower-middle to middle income.

The "small-town nastiness" of Springfield is made evident by a benighted tradition of "snake-whacking" whereby, annually, Springfieldians bludgeon snakes to death. Lisa Simpson, disgusted by this activity, encourages the people of Springfield to quit the tradition with the aid of soul singer [[Barry White]].

Springfieldians have a very bad reputation. As described by [[Dr. Hibbert]], it is a town where the smartest have no power and the stupidest run everything. A fairly accurate statement considering that the offices of police chief and mayor respectively are run by clearly incompetent and corrupt individuals, those few who are competent in official positions are soon replaced by other incompetents, such as former trash commissioner [[Ray Paterson]] being kicked out of office to be replaced by Homer Simpson. ''TIME'' magazine once did a cover story on Springfield entitled "America's Worst City," and ''Newsweek'' has referred to the city as "America's Crud Bucket," the town actually has a billboard saying it is the "Meanest town in America." Most citizens are very stupid, overweight, and also quick to anger, though it should be noted that Shelbyville residents are even stupider and more backwards. There is a riot almost every month. Springfield also has a strange smell that is uncomfortable to new residents. It is usually about six weeks before they adjust. Springfield is also the first United States city to abandon the Metric system.

==Synopsis==
Strange events are happening all around Springfield. In the ensuring days, Kang and Kodos are found to be responsible as they plan to make people go insane by infusing a new version of Buzz Cola into Springfield's water supply. Playing as the [[Simpson family]] (sans [[Maggie]]) and [[Apu]], they go around Springfield investigating the areas of such events to find out what is happening and the secret behind it.

== Plot ==
On October 25, wasp-like cameras and black vans are suddenly appearing in [[Springfield]]. One enters the [[Simpson family|Simpsons]]' residence at [[Evergreen Terrace]]. It disturbs [[Homer]]'s nap, and he crushes it. When he wakes up, he finds levitating coins and sees a commercial for the "New and Improved" [[Buzz Cola]], and decides to go to the [[Kwik-E-Mart]].

=== [[Level 1 (The Simpsons: Hit and Run)|Level 1]] ===
Homer goes to the convenience store to get a bucket of ice cream with mini-pies and a can of Buzz Cola. He then does a favor for [[Lisa]] by giving her the science project before [[Skinner]] reaches the school. Afterwards, Homer gives back [[Flanders]]' stuff that he "borrowed" from before. [[Marge]] later reminds Homer that this day was the examination by [[Smithers]]. [[Lenny]] tells him that Smithers is down at the Kwik-E-Mart, and he decides to destroy his car. To do so, he buys the [[Plow King]] snowplow from [[Barney]]. When the convertible is destroyed, Homer goes to work. However, he can't take a nap because of the camera in his office, and he destroys all of the power couplings, but that ends up sending the workers home. Back home, Homer sits down and watches TV, but he notices a black van outside of his house, and decides to follow it. It stops at [[Burns Manor|Burns' mansion]], and Homer thinks it belongs to [[Mr. Burns]]. He then attempts to warn Marge, but she is busy trying to destroy a new game, the sequel to [[Bonestorm]]. After Homer helps her, he attempts to warn [[Carl]], but he's drunk. Realizing that Smithers would warn Burns of his attempts to accuse him, Homer races Smithers to the mansion and confronts Mr. Burns, who tells him that the vans are part of a pizza delivery service. Homer is promptly fired by Smithers, who releases the hounds on him.

The next day, [[Bart]] attempts to get a copy of the Bonestorm 2 game, but he has to avoid Principal Skinner to get to the [[Try-N-Save]]. When he gets there, [[Jimbo]] reveals that he "bought" the last one in stock with four-finger discount, and unbeknownst to Bart, the rest were destroyed by Marge.
Bart mopes to [[Kearny]], but he tells Bart that fireworks are the new trend. With Kearny's advice, he collects fireworks from [[Otto]], [[Moe]], [[Snake]] and [[Ralph]]. Bart is nearly caught by [[Chief Wiggum]], so he goes on his quest for Bonestorm 2 again. Bart then helps [[Comic Book Guy]] to get to the Java Server before a nerd to report about a new movie on his web page, and when they arrive, Comic Book Guy tells Bart [[Professor Frink]] could have a copy of the game. Frink tells Bart he could make a [[Truckasaurus]] by collecting a WWII radio and a satellite dish. Bart goes to [[Herman's Military Antiques]], but the store was robbed by Snake. He then races Snake for the radio. Bart then helps [[Cletus]] deliver flatmeat to the [[Krusty Burger]] to get a satellite dish. When Bart returns, Professor Frink tells him that he forgot the blender. He goes to [[Dr. Nick]] to get a blender, but first, he has to do him a favor; his monkeys escaped and wants them back. Bart buys the Mr Plow snowplow from Homer, collects the monkeys and he gets the blender. When Bart collects all of the items however, Professor Frink complains that there are too many cell phone users, and the interference would cause it go on a rampage and kill people in the ensuing destruction, and he claims that his insurance is too high to pay for all of that. Bart then destroys the cars with cell phones and gets to see the Trucksaurus. After nearly getting crushed by it, he gets kidnapped by aliens.

The disappearance of Bart puzzled everyone, and on the 27th, Lisa decides to look for her brother. First, she goes to Comic Book Guy for answers, but he wants to retrieve a controversial issue of the [[Itchy and Scratchy]] where they kiss. she helps him out. Next, Lisa goes to [[Milhouse]] for clues, but he just wants to ask her out for a dance, which she refuses. Lisa then goes to [[Apu]], but he needs help destroying flatmeat that Cletus was delivering to the Krusty Burgers. Lisa is then told by [[Grampa]] at the [[Springfield Observatory|observatory]] that he saw Bart's [[lucky red hat]] fall out of a sedan, and with Otto's [[school Bus]], she wrecks it. She then goes down to [[Monty Burns Casino]] and assists Chief Wiggum in taking down Snake with "three strikes", in exchange for information about Bart. He reports that he saw a lot of strange stuff around the docks. Lisa then asks [[Captain McCallister]] about these suspicious appearances, but to jog his memory, she has to deliver fish to restaurants. Instead of delivering them, she sets them free. The Captain then tells Lisa that Bart was in a limo, but when she destroys it, he told her that he was actually aboard the C. Spanker. Lisa then boards the ship, and finds Bart with soiled pants and muttering unintelligible gibberish.

On the 28th, Marge decides to investigate the cause of Bart's insanity. A clue could be a suspicious crop circle. She questions Chief Wiggum, but he needs some donuts even though [[Lard Lad]] is closed. Marge then collects donuts from a donut truck. After that, Chief Wiggum tells Marge the crop circle is near Cletus's shake but when she gets there, Cletus mistakes her for a reporter, so Marge must follow him and collect his items. Afterwards, Cletus agrees to help Marge if she helps him with collecting ketchup packets. Marge agrees but changes into a prison uniform to avoid getting her clothes dirty. After she has helped Cletus, he tells her to try talking to an old person. Marge arrives at the cementery to talk to [[Hans Moleman]], who says she should talk to Grampa, but must be quick because the [[Springfield Retirement Castle]] shuts in a few minutes. Marge gets to Grampa but he needs his medication, which some bullies stole and gave to a man in a black car which is the alien's car. Marge returns and Abe has fallen asleep. After he wakes up, grandpa says that the crop circles are shaped like the image of the Buzz Cola logo. She returns to Bart, who tells her the aliens used it as mind control, so Marge goes and investigates as officer Marge. She then tells Apu about the cola and she destroys three cola trucks. She returns home, where Chief Wiggum is wating. After avoiding him, Marge goes home to her family.

Apu now decides to investigate. He follows a Buzz Cola truck, which takes him to the [[Legitimate Businessman's Social Club]], where [[Louie (Mafia)|Louie]] tells him the cola is related to the museum, but if he tells this to someone, they will go for his family. Apu then prevents the mafia to reach the hospital, where [[Doctor Hibbert]] tells him his babies need diapers, so he gets them from the [[Shelbyville]] family. [[Krusty]] tells Apu to dress himself as an American to follow the police track to get to a criminal that would help him know more about the cola. He gets to Snake, who wants Apu to collect trash bins and destroy an armored truck for "community service". This was actually to get money. Apu then goes for Bart, who helps him get to the museum before it closes. There, they discover this is a plan from [[Kang and Kodos]], who gave Buzz Cola to Earthicans to make them crazy and the audience for their TV show raises. They comment each other they will give laser guns to people at the [[Squidport]] so they shoot each other and make their TV show the most popular one in the galaxy.

Bart wants Apu to help him, but he rejects, so he asks Otto, who is going to [[Krustylu Studios]] taking kids along the way. Bart then asks Barney (as the security guard) where is Krusty. He suggests following a Itchy and Scratchy Movie Lorry that goes to the Squidport. Eventually, it takes Bart to Krusty, who doesn't believe Bart's story about aliens. He decides to find someone who does believe him, like from Professor Frink. After following him to the observatory, he tells Bart to find a laser as proof. He knocks one of the Duff Lorries full of boxes with lasers and destroys them. He picks up one of the lasers as proof, but Skinner takes it. After Bart destroys his car and takes the laser back, he goes for Krusty. Now he believes him and tells him to destroy the laser stands. Bart buys the [[Globex Super Villian Car]] from Kearney and runs over all of the stands. Now, Bart goes for Homer and asks him for help to get rid of the lasers. They have to arrive to the [[Duff Brewery]] before one of the black saloon from before reaches it first. When they get to there, they see a spaceship come from inside the factory. Kang and Kodos tell Homer and Bart that their TV show will raise its ratings because they have dropped Buzz Cola in the cemetery and the dead people will raise from the ground.

Springfield has transformed into a creepy city full of witches, ghosts and zombies everywhere. All of the buildings and houses have been transformed into [[Halloween]] places, with pumpkins at the entrances and on the streets. Lisa wants Homer to get rid of the zombies, so he goes and gets things to fight them. Comic Book Guy then suggests Homer to look for the aliens hideout, which is the [[Springfield Nuclear Power Plant]]. There, Homer finds Professor Frink, who tells him the [[Rigellians]] weakness is nuclear waste, so they both deliver nuclear waste to the spaceship at the school. Later, Lisa tells Homer Mr. Burns must have some nuclear waste. He gives Homer a map to all of the nuclear waste he has hidden in the city. Homer uses his car, Frink's Hover Car, Snake's Bandit and Grampa's [[World War II]] (With Rocket) car to deliver nuclear waste to the spaceship and destroy it. The day after, everything is back to normal. Homer thinks all was just a hotdog dream. Bart informs him about some men in the door. Those men are Rigelians, who congratulate Homer for Kang and Kodos' TV show. In the [[Heaven]], Kang and Kodos watch everything. The game ends with Kang screaming because of the Hit and Run logo appearing, signifying the credits.

== Gameplay ==

Hit & Run focuses primarily on driving missions. It employs the "sandbox" format, featuring a third-person view, an explorable environment, and drivable vehicles similar to the GTA series. While most cars can be hijacked or stolen, the non-playable characters' vehicles cannot be compromised in this way. Instead, the player's character can be seen riding in the passenger's seat of another vehicle while the owner drives. The game features a "Hit & Run meter" that brings the police after the player if it gets too high; if the player is captured by the police, (s)he is fined 50 coins. In the first 3 levels, only one police car is deployed to chase the player, but starting from level 4, two police cars are dispatched in pursuit.

Progressing though the various story levels allows the player to control Homer, Lisa, Marge, Bart, and Apu; many other Simpsons characters such as Chief Wiggum and Professor Frink appear in non-playable roles, but will also drive you in some missions.

In addition to the story missions, players can optionally participate in "bonus" missions or races which typically award unlockable cars for successful completion. Coins, the currency in the game, are acquired by hitting objects such as trees or mailboxes, destroying wasp cameras or Buzz Cola machines, or simple collection (many coins are simply scattered throughout each level). Players can use coins to purchase new vehicles or outfits for the current character; many of these can be traced directly to specific episodes of The Simpsons (e.g. Bart's Space Shuttle-shaped ''[[Honor Roller]]'' soapbox racer or Marge's police uniform). Many of the cars come from "[[The Simpsons Road Rage]]".

A number of "collector cards" depicting objects, characters, or scenes from the series are placed in each level, usually in hard-to-access areas. Collecting all of these cards in a level unlocks a track that can be played in a slot car-like racing game, and collecting all of the cards in the game unlocks an original Itchy & Scratchy short, "[[500-Yard Gash]]".

== Reception ==
The game received generally favorable reviews, an average of 81/100 score from critics. The game did well in sales as well, selling over 5.5 million copies worldwide as of June 2009. The game received an editor's choice award from GameSpy and it won the award for Fave Video Game at the 2004 Nickelodeon Australian Kids' Choice Awards.

==Synopsis==
Thanks to [[Bart]] leaving his [[lucky red hat]] in the load of washed white shirts, [[Homer]] wears a pink shirt to the nuclear power plant. He is promptly committed to a mental institution where he meets up with a heavy-set, bald, white man, Leon Kompowski, who walks and talks like Michael Jackson.

==Plot==
At the opening of the show, Lisa reminds Bart that her birthday is coming up and not to forget to get her a present. Homer's traditional white shirt turns pink in the wash, and he is forced to face the ridicule of his co-workers by wearing pink to work. He catches the attention of Mr. Burns, who pegs him as "some kind of free-thinking anarchist", and orders him to be examined by [[Dr. Marvin Monroe]]. After receiving a take-home psychological test from him, he has Bart fill it out for him. After handing it in, he is promptly judged to be insane and committed to a mental institution. There he is bunked with a large white man who claims he is Michael Jackson. The two quickly become friends.

The day of Lisa's Birthday, "Michael" calls the Simpson household to let Bart know that Homer has been committed, and Marge starts working on a way to get him out. Marge tries to convince the institution that Homer is not really crazy, and is eventually successful when they find out that they're really is a 'Bart'. Homer invites "Michael" to their home for the night. Bart, believing that Leon is really Michael Jackson, begins to inform all his friends that he is on his way. Meanwhile, in all the commotion, Lisa seems to be forgotten.

The word that Michael Jackson is on his way to Springfield, begins to spread through the town, and a large crowd forms around the Simpson house. When the two of them arrive, and the crowd sees a large, white man instead of Michael Jackson, the crowd gets angry and disperses. After the melee, Bart admits to Lisa that he forgot to buy her a birthday present. Lisa storms off, crushed.

After witnessing Lisa's turmoil, "Michael" approaches Bart and tries to convince him to write Lisa a song to make up to her. After Bart confronts him about his obvious delusion about being a famous recording star, they get down to writing, and eventually compose a ballad called, "[[Happy Birthday, Lisa]]". The next day they perform it for her, and all is well again. After this, "Michael" tells them all that his real name is [[Leon Kompowsky]], and he's a bricklayer from Paterson, NJ. He tells them that he was an angry and unhappy man until he started talking like Michael Jackson and saw that it made everyone around him happy, which in turn made him happy, so he just kept on doing it. Leon then takes his leave, walking down the street singing Lisa's birthday song in his normal voice.

==Production==
The script was written by [[Al Jean]] and [[Mike Reiss]] and was directed by [[Rich Moore]]. [[Michael Jackson]] guest starred in this episode as [[Leon Kompowsky]].

===Michael Jackson's Appearance===
[[Michael Jackson]] himself voiced Leon Kompowsky's dialogue, and sound-a-like [[Kipp Lennon]] performed all the singing parts. Jackson's guest appearance was credited to "John Jay Smith." The DVD commentary for this episode indicates that Jackson approached the Simpsons team wanting to appear on the show, but due to a contract obligation, was not allowed to sing. However, he did write "[[Happy Birthday, Lisa]]" for the show. Great secrecy surrounded the guest appearance for some time, and even [[Matt Groening]], when appearing on the Jay Leno show, did not openly reveal that it was Jackson (although he hinted strongly). It wasn't until the episode "[[Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie|Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie]]" that a more open clue was given to viewers, when Lisa mentions that [[Dustin Hoffman]] and Michael Jackson made cameo appearances in the movie, stating, "They didn't use their real names, but you could tell it was them..." (Dustin Hoffman, of course, voiced [[Mr. Bergstrom]] in the episode [[Lisa's Substitute]], and his guest appearance was similarly shrouded).

===Alternate Opening===
After Barbara Bush commented on how much she didn't like the show and contacted the writers, The Simpsons show runners decided to get their own back! They produced a new opening for a re-run of "Stark Raving Dad".

The scene begins in the Simpsons' living room. They all stare at the television, watching Bush's speech. When Bush says "to make American families a lot more like the Waltons and a lot less like the Simpsons", Bart replies, "Hey, we're just like the Waltons. We're praying for an end to the Depression, too."

==Reception==
The episode was watched by 12.8 million households, and received overwhelming positive reviews from TV critics. Critics praised it's writing: "The greatness of 'Stark Raving Dad' has a lot more to do with The Simpsons' writing staff than with Jackson's voice-over talents. The show's scripters came up with a plot device far more ingenious than simply dropping the singer into Springfield."

It is generally agreed that the projects are unused, and that the only one that ever really worked, until it suffered coordination problems, was Re-Watch. Maybe what's needed is a change in nomenclature. The Projects pages contain lots of good information about how to write articles that fall under the projects' various aegises, so they do serve as an effective style guide. ::Maybe we should rename them Style Guides like Myth said. The truth is we're too small (it's only like 15 regular editors) to have Projects work the way they should—that's why it's always just the Project Leader working on the project. Project Re-watch worked, I believe, because it was easy to participate, so everyone did: just rewatch the episode, and see what needed to be done. And more over, it wasn't restricted to one area of the wiki, like the Projects are.

::Project Episodes might be of some use, as we were just talking about adding more tabs, but the rest never accomplish anything. The main thing, however, is that we need to be deciding on policies/guidelines together as a community, like we're doing now. (As you all know, I often try to have discussions pertaining to the wiki as a whole, and usually no one else participates, as in offering up their own ideas, but editors will bicker over policies and such on user talk pages. That's why I suggest a Wiki Convention, which would be nothing more than a month (or two-month) long discussion open to any and all aspects of the wiki.)

Following the shooting of [[Mr. Burns]], [[Waylon Smithers]] woke up hung over with a vague memory of having shot someone after the town meeting. Smithers then noticed his own gun had been recently fired, and came to the conclusion that he must have shot Burns. Guilt-ridden, Smithers went to the Cathredal of the Downtown, sat down in the confessional booth and confessed to having shot Burns. Instead of a priest, however, [[Chief Wiggum]] was sitting in the other side of the booth. After Smithers finished his confession, Wiggum opened the curtain, said "That's all I needed to hear!" and arrested him. Wiggum apparently made a regular practice of using the cathedral's confessional booth to catch suspects, as he also said, "Boy, this thing works great" as he arrested Smithers.

Smithers was later proven innocent, however. [[Sideshow Mel]] watched the news coverage of Smithers' arrest, [[Pardon My Zinger|realized that Smithers couldn't have shot Burns]] and went to the police with the information. The man Smithers shot turned out to be [[Jasper Beardly]], who was unharmed because Smithers had hit him in his wooden leg.

==History==
As [[Bart]] and [[Milhouse]] wandered through the mall they came across the bullies, who were working at The Sole Provider. The two friends then started harassing the bullies, taking advantage of [[Squeaky-voiced teen|their boss']] rule "No wailing on customers." After their boss quit, however, the bullies were able to get revenge on Bart and Milhouse, beating the two of them up and tying them to a web of shoelaces in the store window.

At the time Squeeky-voiced teen was in a managerial position at the store the bullies seemed to be somewhat afraid of him, although this was probably just because they didn't want to lose their jobs.

==Behind the Laughter==
*The name of the store is a pun on the phrase "the sole provider" with the word "sole" meaning only. In this case however the name of the store refers to the sole of a shoe, giving the name a double meaning.
*The appearance of the store and the referee uniforms the bullies wear are a parody of {{W|Foot Locker}}.

Lisa has also never shown having hay fever at all anywhere else, and even though it may have just been Cypress Creek's plants, she should have shown at least some symptoms elsewhere. Bart has also been shown eating shrimp before, despite the fact he is allergic to it.

While it is possible to lose allergies as you grow older, the characters in ''The Simpsons'' do not age so that can not be used as an excuse. The only logical explanation for this discontinuity is that it is a result of oversights from the producers and writers.
