"Some Enchanted Evening" is the thirteenth and final episode of Season 1. It aired on FOX on 13 May, 1990.

Synopsis
Homer and Marge go out for dinner one night while having Bart, Lisa and Maggie responsible by a babysitter called Ms. Botz. Unbeknownst to the family, Botz is known as a wanted bandit for babysitting and which she is covering her identity while Homer and Marge spends their time fairly.

Plot
The episode starts with the Simpson family fighting at the breakfast table. Lisa and Bart are fighting over a donut, while Homer is reading the newspaper. After the children leave for school, Homer leaves to the power plant without even noticing Marge. Our heroine is left with an asleep Maggie and Arnie Pie on the radio, yelling at Kent Brockman. Suddenly, a commercial comes on the radio, urging Marge to call Dr. Marvin Monroe's on-the-air therapy. She does so, and tells him she's tired of Homer of not treating her like the "hot love object you are." (quoted by Dr. Monroe).

At work, Homer hears his wife talking about him on the phone and instead of going home that night, goes to Moe's and asks Moe for advice. Moe tells Homer he should take her to a fancy restaurant, spend the night at a hotel, and buy her some flowers. He ends up buying her a box of chocolates and a single rose, as the flowers are very expensive, and goes home and tells Marge he loves her. Marge's complexion softens, and he decides to take her where Moe suggested. During this time, Bart has made various prank calls to Moe's Tavern (Al Caholic and Oliver Clozoff).

However, the parents are faced with a problem when they realize their kids have nobody to watch over them. Marge picks up the phone to find out that Moe is still yapping at Bart for the Oliver Clozoff prank ("Goodness! Must be a crossed wire!") Marge picks it up again and calls the Rubber Baby Buggy Bumper Babysitting Service, and the receptionist immediately freaks out, telling her she must be kidding. Homer then calls under the alias "Homer Sampson", and hires a babysitter, Ms. Botz.

When Ms. Botz arrives, Marge says that Maggie has to go to sleep. Ms. Botz (sarcastically) remembers that Marge also said that Bart and Lisa can stay awake for another hour and watch the Happy Little Elves Meet the Curious Bear Cub. Ms. Botz makes them watch the video (against Bart's wishes) whilst she puts Maggie to bed. After a while, Bart gets bored, and decides to switch to America's Most Armed and Dangerous, where the host is talking to the audience about the notorious "Babysitter Bandit", who's real name is Lucille Botzkowski. The host also warns the viewers that she might be using a clever alias. They then show Bart and Lisa, and the rest of their TV audience, a picture of the criminal - who looks just like Ms. Botz.

As if on cue, Ms. Botz, who is really the Babysitter Bandit, comes into the room and ties up Bart and Lisa. Meanwhile, the parents are enjoying a fancy dinner at a restaurant. Once done with their meal, the Simpson adults go to their fancy hotel, where Marge discovers there is no answer at home, as Ms. Botz has unplugged all the phones.

Back in the house, Maggie wakes up and goes downstairs to find her siblings tied up, just as The Happy Little Elves video ends. Lisa tells Maggie she'll be able to watch the film again if she unties them. The baby complies, saving the day once more.

The Simpson children hatch a plan. Maggie goes up the staircase and into the room where the Babysitter Bandit is robbing the closet. She then sucks on her pacifier and walks out of the room. Botzkowksi, tired of the incompetent children, follows Maggie's pacifier sucking sounds and into a dark closet, where she is hit on the head by Bart, wielding a baseball bat. It turns out Bart was harnessing Maggie's pacifier to accomplish the deed. The kids then rush to a local pay phone and alert the authorities, but not before tying the Babysitter Bandit up and forcing her to watch The Happy Little Elves.

Marge and Homer arrive home, worried about getting no answer. They find "Ms. Botz" tied up and gagged, and then send her home with all her suitcases (in which the stolen items are contained), plus three times her regular pay. The police then arrive, along with the media, and the officers ask Homer if he really did aid the Babysitter Bandit in escaping. Homer says, "Not exactly aid..." before Homer, in bed later, watching himself on TV, turns it off, saying he's just not that bright. Marge says she loves him the way he is, and then Homer turns out the light, to have a relaxing sleep.

Production
Although the episode was the first produced of Season 1 and the series, with its production code as 7G01 as opposed to later codes such as 7G08 from the first episode, "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire", production was delayed and overhauled after a workprint of the episode had been poorly received and covered 70% of the episode. This share of the episode had to be remade, while airing "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire" for it being a Christmas special, having to air it in Christmas 1989 and becoming the first episode during this hiatus.

A workprint of the episode was the first to come back from Korea as episodes of The Simpsons are often animated overseas to a South Korean animation studio AKOM, due to the overload of episodes and saving costs in lower developed countries like Korea. The Simpsons shorts were produced in-house at Klasky-Csupo although the domestic studio produces only the character and background layout of episodes. The original, rough version of "Some Enchanted Evening" is also incomplete as it ends with Bart and Lisa fleeing from Ms. Botz, just discovering that she is America's Most Wanted. Sound effects and an original soundtrack are absent and would have been inserted had this been finalized.

The workprint was not been well received in the Gracie Films bungalow, with James L. Brooks giving a response with profanity. The producers wanted a realistic environment for The Simpsons as other studios had unrealistic styles for animation such as Disney, Warner Bros, Hanna-Barbera, etc. The former two has a universe where the universe was bendy and characters seemed to be made out of rubber. Hanna Barbera used cartoon sounds which were also declined. While the shorts lacked much realism in animation, the half hour series had been intended to be as realistic as possible despite the unrealistic animation.

70% of the episode had to be redone. The episode was worked on during the course of the first season until finally being aired on May 13, 1990 as the season finale. The producers considered aborting production of the series if the next episode, "Bart the Genius" has similar production difficulties although fortunately had several fixable animation problems. They convinced FOX to postpone the season premiere for several months. Although "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire", the eight episode in production order, had to be aired as it was a Christmas special in December 1989, it became the first episode of the first season and the first episode of The Simpsons overall.

Reception
The episode was watched by around 14.2 million households with a Nielsen rating of 15.4 and eventually ranked as the 12th most watched show the week it originally aired.

"Some Enchanted Evening" received mixed reviews from critics and viewers. According to Al Jean, viewers thought this episode was the best episode of the first season after the season ended. Penny Marshall, who played Ms. Botz, ranked on AOL's list of their favorite 25 Simpsons guest stars.
"Krusty Gets Busted" is the twelfth episode of The Simpsons and twelfth episode of the first season.

Synopsis
:"No one is sadder than Bart when his TV hero Krusty the Clown is arrested for a convenience-store robbery, and witness Homer has to testify against the clown."

Plot
The episode begins with Bart, Lisa and Maggie watching Krusty the Clown on TV. During the show a reluctant and unhappy Sideshow Bob is launched from a cannon, also an episode of Itchy and Scratchy is aired (titled: Burning Love). Marge calls Homer at work and asks him to stop on his way home to pick up some ice cream. Homer asks what the occasion is, and shudders when he learns that Patty and Selma are coming over later to show slides of their vacation in Mexico. Homer stops at the Kwik-E-Mart for ice cream on the way home, and while there he witnesses Krusty rob Apu at gunpoint. Cut quickly to the Simpson house, as the rest of the family watches Patty and Selma's slides. Cut back to Homer, who gives a description of Krusty to the police. Meanwhile at Krusty's apartment Krusty is relaxing with a drink when a SWAT team busts down his door and take him into custody. At the police station Homer identifies Krusty as the armed robber. Homer finally makes it home just as the news report about Krusty's arrest comes on the air. Bart is devastated that his idol Krusty could have done such a thing.

On the news, Kent Brockman reports on the upcoming trial and history of Krusty the Clown including the fact that Krusty has a pacemaker. Reverend Lovejoy calls for a public burning of all Krusty merchandise. The next day as Krusty walks up the steps to the courthouse Bart and Lisa watch in disbelief and Bart notices that Krusty has small feet. Inside the courtroom during the trial, even after Bart begs him not to, Homer points out Krusty to the jury as the armed robber. Later back at the house, Homer and Marge gather up all the Krusty merchandise in the house and head to the public burning. An upset Bart watches as the pile of merchandise goes up in flames. The next day at the trial, it is revealed after being asked to identify some evidence that Krusty is illiterate. Later, the jury reaches a guilty verdict. At the Simpson house, Lisa and Maggie watch Sideshow Bob who has now taken over for Krusty on TV. When Bart walks in and sees this, he is upset. He tells Lisa, he thinks Krusty is innocent and he convinces her to help him prove Krusty's innocence.

Bart and Lisa return to the scene of the crime at the Kwik-E-Mart to search for clues. They find out the first clue that Krusty could not have used the microwave as depicted by the hidden camera footage from the store because he wears a pacemaker, due to a heart attack he suffered years ago and that there is a sign saying that people wearing pacemakers should never be near the microwave. They also find out the second clue that Krusty would not have been reading at the magazine rack, because he is illiterate, as he confessed to it during the trial, despite his show's endorsement of child literacy. Lisa recalls that while watching the security tape, she noticed the robber yelled at Homer when he stepped on his shoes. It was the third and final clue, indicating the robber had big feet. Upon learning the three clues, she realizes that Bart was right and Krusty was framed for a crime he didn't commit. They believe Sideshow Bob might know if Krusty had any enemies who want to see him fall, and decide to go talk to him. Cut to Sideshow Bob who after just finishing taping of his show enters his changing room and emits an evil diabolical laugh.

The next day, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie meet with Bob at the studio to ask him if Krusty had any enemies. But before they can ask him, Bob dismisses their investigations as the show is about to start, although he gives them tickets to his show. At the live broadcast, Bart comes on stage and explains to Bob about his investigation. Bob brushes Bart's investigations aside, stating that Krusty never really followed doctor's orders (thus why he used the microwave) and could simply have been looking at the cartoons in the magazine. Bob tries to change the subject, admits to the audience that he had 'big shoes to fill'. This helps Bart figure out the identity of the mystery robber from the Kwik-E-Mart: Sideshow Bob. The former sidekick had the most to gain from Krusty's downfall. He has feet large enough to fill his clown shoes and therefore he yelled at Homer when he stepped on his feet before the robbery.

Outraged, Bart rightfully levels his accusation towards Sideshow Bob. He grabs the microphone and contends to the audience that Bob was the real robber and proves his point by smashing the end of his shoe with a croquet mallet. This causes him to scream in pain and grab his foot. Bob yells at him for hitting his foot and the kids are shocked to hear the words uttered on the security tape. Bart continues that even though Krusty wore big clown shoes on his show, he always had little feet like everyone else. He mentions that Sideshow Bob had the most to gain in his downfall by filling his shoes with his huge feet and hits it once more, causing him to fall down. Bart removes Bob's clown shoes and reveal his huge feet on T.V. The police, having watched this realized Bart was right and they overlooked one key piece of evidence that could've kept Krusty out of jail. Chief Wiggum orders them to immediately go to the studio and arrest Sideshow Bob for the robbery.

Outside the studio, an arrested and exposed Bob dramatically confesses to the crime. He reveals that he framed Krusty for the Kwik-E-Mart armed robbery out of frustration because he finally had enough of constantly being on the receiving end of the clown's humiliating antics for more ratings. He felt his intelligence was wasted on the Krusty the Clown show and wanted it gone so he can make an educational program where his intelligence is appreciated by the public. Bob is taken off to jail and swears revenge on Bart for foiling him. He also warns adult criminals to treat children like equals because they were smart to catch him and will be smart to catch them too. The charges against Krusty are dropped and he now regains the trust of the community and the crowd cheers for him. Homer, the people and the police gave their apologies to him for their misunderstanding. Grateful to be free, Krusty thanks Bart for standing up for the truth and sticking to his convictions. The episode then ends with Bart tacking up a photo of him and Krusty on a wall. He happily goes to bed with his room refurnished with new Krusty merchandise.

Production
Sideshow Bob makes his first appearance as a major character in this episode. However, his official first appearance was in the background of a scene in the season one episode "The Telltale Head". Bob's design was revamped, with his original round hair being turned into his now-famous "palm tree" style. James Earl Jones was originally cast as Bob, but the producers decided to try Kelsey Grammer. Also making their first appearances in this episode are Kent Brockman and Scott Christian.

Reception
The episode finished thirteenth place for May 23–29, 1990, with a Nielsen rating of 16.4. The episode received positive reviews from critics. Matt Groening has listed it as his ninth favorite episode of the show and said "I have a peculiar love of TV clownery". In a DVD review of the first season, David B. Grelck gave the episode a rating of 3/5. Colin Jacobson at DVD Movie Guide said in a review that "throughout the episode we found great material; it really seemed clear that the show was starting to turn into the piece we now know and love. It’s hard for me to relate any deficiencies" and added that "almost every Bob episode offers a lot of fun, and this episode started that trend in fine style."
"The Crepes of Wrath" is the eleventh episode of season 1. It originally aired on April 15, 1990. The episode was written by George Meyer, Sam Simon, John Swartzwelder and Jon Vitti. It was directed by Wes Archer and Milton Gray. Agnes Skinner, made her first appearance on the show in this episode, although her voice is different to that of later episodes.

Synopsis
When Bart flushes a cherry bomb down the toilet, Principal Skinner suggests that he should partake in a foreign exchange scheme. Bart ends up in France, working for some crooks that want to put antifreeze into wine. Meanwhile, back in Springfield, Adil Hoxha, an Albanian boy, is exchanged to the Simpsons to receive in the scheme, shows an interest in the power plant, and sends information back to the Albanian government.

Plot
While being forced to clean his room (after accidentally causing Homer to trip down the stairs, hurting his back), Bart discovers an old cherry bomb, and decides to flush it down the boy's restroom toilet at school. This decision is unknowingly made at the same time as Principal Skinner's mother, Agnes Skinner, is in the girl's restroom, the resulting explosion blows Mrs. Skinner off the toilet.

Shortly afterwards, Principal Skinner arrives at the Simpsons' house with Bart in tow. Skinner explains that the incident has 'transcended incorrigible.' Feeling that detention, suspension or expulsion won't do, he suggests deportation. The idea shocks Marge, but Skinner explains his plan: In order to be rid of him, Skinner proposes to the Simpsons that Bart should participate in a foreign exchange program. Bart is sent to France, whereas the Simpsons host a student from Albania named Adil Hoxha.

In France, Bart is greeted by Cesar & Ugolín, who work him worse than their donkey. After confiscating all of Bart's clothes and items, Bart is made to collect and crush grapes, sleep on the floor, and test wine adulterated with antifreeze.

Back at the Simpsons, it is revealed Adil is actually a spy who is after nuclear secrets, which he intends to obtain from Homer. Homer is happy that Adil is taking an interest in his work, and promptly shows him around the plant.

Back in France, Bart is sent out for a case of antifreeze. As he wanders the streets, he finds a Police Officer, who, sadly, doesn't understand Bart's English. When he gives Bart a piece of candy, Bart then leaves, feeling that he will never learn French, even though he has been there for two months. He then suddenly starts speaking French, and tells the officer about the child abuse and how they put the anti-freeze in the wine. Ceaser and Ugolin are swiftly arrested for the anti-freeze in the wine, and Bart becomes a national hero in France.

Back in the 'States, Adil is caught by the FBI and is exchanged for a boy who is an American spy caught in Albania. As Adil leaves, Bart returns, and his family is grateful to see him again.
"Homer's Night Out" is the tenth episode of season 1. It originally aired on March 25, 1990. The episode was written by Jon Vitti and directed by Rich Moore. Sam McMurray guest stars in the episode as Gulliver Dark. Carl Carlson made his first appearances on The Simpsons in this episode.

Synopsis
Bart purchases a spy camera through a catalog, and Homer goes to a stag party at a local restaurant. The rest of the family also go to the restaurant coincidentally, and Bart snaps a picture of Homer dancing with a belly dancer, called Princess Kashmir. Soon, all of Springfield sees the picture, and Marge orders him out of the house. Homer takes Bart to a burlesque show to explain how he shouldn't take advantage of women.

Plot
Bart purchases a miniature spy camera from a mail-order catalog which arrives six months later. Bart uses it to take candid photos around the house, including ones of Homer and Marge during their private time.

Later, Homer announces he's going to a bachelor party for Eugene Fisk, his supervisor at the power plant (formerly, his assistant). Marge decides to take the children to The Rusty Barnacle, a seafood restaurant where Fisk's bachelor party is taking place (in a separate area known as Davy Jones' Locker). Fisk and his father clearly are uncomfortable and want to leave after a sexy belly dancer named Princess Kashmir arrives. When Kashmir is unable to arouse the Fisks, Homer is invited onstage to dance with her. Homer has a great time dancing with Princess Kashmir. Bart later investigates the noisy party, sees that his father is onstage putting money in Kashmir's G-string and snaps a photo with his spy camera. Homer: "This is the most fun I've had in my entire life!"

At school, Bart joins the camera club. President Martin compliments Bart for the picture of Homer dancing with Princess Kashmir and asks to have a copy. Bart refuses, but gives one to Milhouse. Milhouse promptly gets requests for a copy of the picture, and it isn't long before everyone in Springfield has one. Marge sees a copy of the picture at her aerobics class and furiously rips it from the wall.

Later, Homer is on his way home from work, oblivious to what others are referring to when they make sly remarks about his sexual prowess. But when Homer opens the front door, Marge immediately shoves the picture in his face and demands an explanation. Bart admits he took the picture. Marge sends Bart to his room and, after scolding Homer, shoves a hastily half-packed suitcase his way and kicks him out of the house.

Homer eventually spends the night at Barney's poorly kept apartment. The next day – after enduring questioning from Mr. Burns about the picture – Homer goes home to apologize. But Marge doesn't want an apology; she wants Homer to take Bart to meet Princess Kashmir and show that women are not sex objects.

Left with no other alternative, Homer and Bart scour the strip clubs of Springfield to find Princess Kashmir. Eventually, they track her down at the Sapphire Lounge. Homer introduces himself and Bart to Kashmir, who is preoccupied with getting onstage for her performance. She eventually tells Homer about herself. Just as Homer is about to leave, he accidentally finds himself on stage for the night's feature attraction: dancing by scantily-clad women from all nations. Homer, however, after seeing Bart, manages to make a passionate plea to the audience to treat women with respect. This plea moves the audience. Marge, who is in the audience, accepts Homer's comments and the two make up.
It originally aired on March 18, 1990. The episode was written by John Swartzwelder and directed by David Silverman. The episode marks the first appearances of Lenny Leonard, Jacques and Helen Lovejoy. This also marks the first episode to win a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program.

Synopsis
Homer buys Marge a bowling ball for her birthday, but she accuses him of only buying it for himself - something which is true, right down to the Homer engraving on the ball. To spite him, she begins to learn how to bowl, helped by Jacques, with whom she becomes quite attached to. Homer suspects something when Jacques invites Marge to his apartment, but Marge changes her plans and goes to the power plant to see her husband instead.

Plot
The episode begins with Bart and Lisa in the kitchen making Marge breakfast for her birthday. The kids bring it upstairs and surprise Marge with breakfast in bed. During the surprise Homer thinks it is his birthday and then quickly realizes he has forgotten Marge's birthday. He quickly hurries downstairs and takes off in the car with tires squealing. Cut to Homer shopping at the mall for a present. Back at the house Marge is on the phone with her sisters Patty and Selma talking about Homer's lousy gift giving history and deciding on where to go for her birthday dinner. At the mall Homer eyes up seeing a bowling ball and has an idea. Cut back to the house where Homer hides Marge's present and Marge informs Homer about dinner at The Singing Sirloin with the kids and her sisters. Later at the restaurant Marge receives a bottle of French perfume from Bart and a dried macaroni art piece from Lisa. When it comes time for Homer to give Marge his present, a bowling ball complete with drilled holes and Homer's name engraved on it, everyone is shocked including Marge who is visibly upset.

Back at the house, before going to bed, Homer tries to defend his reasoning for getting Marge the bowling ball. Marge doesn't buy it and decides to go ahead and use the bowling ball just to spite Homer. Homer is upset because his plan for a new bowling ball has now backfired. The next day at Barney's Bowlarama, Marge goes bowling by herself and clearly does not know what she is doing. A French accented man named Jacques, bowling in the lane next to Marge, comes over and offers bowling lessons to her and she accepts. It is clear that Jacques is to trying to seduce Marge and she is very flattered. Back at the house Homer does his fatherly duties and provides pizza for dinner and puts the kids to bed. Later on with everyone asleep, Marge finally comes home. When Marge tells Homer she will be going bowling again the next night he becomes suspicious but doesn't say anything to her about it. The next night at the bowling alley Jacques gives Marge a wrist guard for bowling, with her name embroidered on it. The seduction continues and Marge is clearly enjoying herself. Later on Jacques drops off Marge at home and invites Marge to brunch the next day, she reluctantly agrees. When she comes to bed late, once again Homer is suspicious but doesn't say anything.

The next morning, before school, Marge gives Bart and Lisa large sack lunches with extra goodies inside, and showers them with lots of love. Lisa asks Marge if she is going bowling later and Marge says yes. Later on the bus, while Bart comments on the cool lunches, Lisa explains to him that Marge is feeling guilty because her marriage with Homer is starting to crumble. Bart doesn't understand and denies the situation even exists. At brunch with Jacques, Marge is visibly nervous about being seen with another man, and Helen Lovejoy, the Reverend's wife, and local gossip, stops by to chat. Marge starts feeling even more uncomfortable, and when Jacques asks her to meet with him at his apartment she faints. During her fainting spell Marge dreams about the encounter with Jacques at his apartment. In the dream, Marge in a gown and Jacques in a tux dance together and just as Jacques leans in for a kiss Marge wakes up from her dream. Marge sees Jacques staring her in the eyes and she agrees to meet him again, this time at his apartment. Back at home in the bedroom Homer discovers Marge's wrist guard and fears the worst. Bart comes in and asks Homer to play catch. When playing catch in the backyard Homer is too depressed and lost in thought to pay attention. Bart panics and realizes that Lisa is right about their parents' marriage. He offers Homer some advice and tells him to keep his mouth shut to Marge about the situation and maybe it won't get any worse. The next morning while Marge is making the kids lunches for school, Homer tells her how much he likes her sandwiches and mentions he doesn't believe in keeping feelings bottled up inside and then walks out to go to work. Marge is touched by his words. Cut to Jacques at his apartment getting ready for his meeting with Marge, it is apparent that he plans on really putting the moves on Marge this time. Back to Homer at work, who is to preoccupied to eat his lunch. Meanwhile Marge is in the car headed for Jacques’ apartment, on the way there she sees various couples together clearly in love. When she comes to a fork in the road with one way leading to Jacques and the other leading to Homer at the power plant she can't decide which way to go. Cut back to Homer who is looking sad and depressed at work when Marge walks in and taps him on the shoulder surprising him and making him forget all his worries. As Homer carries Marge in his arms off to the backseat of their car, he announces that, "I won't be back for ten minutes!"
The episode begins with Homer and Bart walking on a sidewalk in downtown Springfield at nighttime. Bart has the head of a statue in his arms. As the two turn the corner an angry mob advances on them. Homer and Bart are forced to turn and run away. The mob corners Homer and Bart in the town square next to the headless Jebediah Springfield statue. As the mob angrily advances, Bart climbs up onto the statue and begs everyone to please listen to his story. Flashback to Sunday morning: the family is getting ready for church and Homer is preoccupied with a football game. On the way into church Marge confiscates Bart's personal radio with earphones and gives them to Homer. During Sunday school the teacher and students discuss the topic of who is allowed in Heaven all the students ask a lot of questions and at the end confuse and drive the teacher crazy. Back in the church while the sermon is about sports gambling; Homer is oblivious because he is using Bart's headphones to listen to the game. On the way home from church Marge expresses her disapproval of Homer's headphones and Bart sees that the movie theater is playing Space Mutants, and begs to go see it; Homer doesn't care but Marge tells him no. Later at home Bart asks for 5 dollars from Homer and then takes off on his skateboard. Bart skates over to the movie theater, once there he encounters 2 of the worst kids in school: Jimbo and Kearney. Bart makes a good impression on them and when Dolph pokes his head out the emergency exit door and says the coast is clear, they invite him to sneak into Space Mutants 4 with them. Bart, a little unsure of the situation, agrees to sneak into the movie also.

Inside the movie theater the kids watch the movie and are discovered by an angry usher and kicked out of the theater. Back outside the group including Bart head to the Kwik-E-Mart. While Bart unwittingly distracts Apu and orders 4 Squishees, the other kids swipe a bunch of stuff from the store. Bart meets up with them in the parking lot and realizes he was used to help steal from the store, and in an effort to stay cool with the group he doesn't say anything. They all wander over to the town square to throw rocks at the Jebediah Springfield statue, once again Bart goes along with the group so they will like him. Later while the group shoots the breeze, one of the kids says it would be cool if somebody cut the head off of the statue. When Bart hears this he defends the town founder, Jebediah Springfield, and then the other three ridicule and tease him for it. Bart walks away embarrassed. When Bart walks home by himself he passes by the statue again, and thinking about what the kids said earlier he gets an idea. Bart arrives home and talks to Homer in the kitchen about the importance of being popular. Homer tells Bart that no matter what it takes popularity is the most important thing in life. That night after everyone is asleep a black clad Bart sneaks out of the house and heads to the town square. Once at the square Bart climbs to the top of the statue with a hack saw and beheads Jebediah Springfield.

The next morning Bart wakes up in bed next to the head of Jebediah (an homage to “The Godfather”). Bart heads downstairs to the kitchen with the head in his backpack where everyone is eating breakfast when a report comes over the radio announcing the decapitation of the town statue. Bart starts get nervous when he sees how everyone in the family becomes angry after hearing the report. Scenes from Moe's Tavern and the Retirement Castle reveal that everyone else is upset about the statue as well. In town Bart meets up with the 3 kids from the day before. He is about to show them the head when he hears them say they were just kidding about decapitating the statue and would like to pound whoever stole Jebediah's head. Bart quickly picks up his backpack and hurries away toward home, passing through a growing angry crowd downtown. On the way, Bart's guilty conscience talks to him in the form of Jebediah's voice. Back at home Bart quickly goes to the back yard and tries to bury the head, but his guilty conscience, acting as Jebediah, talks him out of it. Cut to the living room where the rest of the family is watching TV; Bart walks in with the head and confesses, much to the shock of the family. When Bart tells Homer he stole the head to become popular, Homer realizes he is at fault as well. Homer and Bart head back into town with the head and now the story meets back up with the beginning of the episode. As Bart finishes the story he apologizes to the angry mob and they have a turn of heart and forgive him. Bart places the head back on the statue and all is well as the mob cheers.
"The Call of the Simpsons" is the seventh episode of season 1. It aired on February 18, 1990. The episode was written by John Swartzwelder and directed by Wes Archer. Cowboy Bob and Rod Flanders make their first appearance in this episode.

Synopsis
It's a camping misadventure for the Simpsons. First, the Simpsons get lost in the woods and lose all their camping equipment. Bart and Homer go get help, but get washed down a waterfall, and lose all their clothes. Meanwhile, Maggie meets up with some bears, while Homer is confused for Bigfoot after he goes in a mud pile.

Plot
The episode begins with Homer and Bart outside doing yard work when Ned Flanders pulls up in his brand new RV, the Land Behemoth, and shows it off to Homer and Bart. In an effort to try to keep up with Ned, Homer takes the family to Bob's RV Round-Up in search of an RV of their own. Bob the RV salesman comes out and introduces Homer to an RV called the Ultimate Behemoth, and gives the family a tour. During the tour Homer and the kids express their awe of the RV and Marge worries about the cost. Bob takes Homer into the office to work out a price and run a credit check. It turns out the Ultimate Behemoth is a little out of Homer price range. So, Bob shows Homer the most run down, beaten up, small RV on the lot and pressures him into buying it, ignoring Marge Lisa and Bart's disapproval. Later, after loading up their "brand new" RV Homer gloats to Flanders about his purchase and the Simpson family head out to go camping. On the way Homer take a less beaten path and ignores Marge's suggestions for a map or stopping for directions. Calling his RV an all-terrain-vehicle, and much to the worry of everyone else, Homer plows through a forest and decides to stop randomly in the middle of nowhere. When the RV finally comes to a screeching halt it ends up teetering on the edge of a cliff. Everyone quickly gets out of the RV and it plummets over the edge along with everything they brought with them, resulting in a fiery explosion at the bottom of the drop.

The family is now left with nothing but the clothes on their backs and they are lost in the middle of the forest. Homer tells everyone to relax because he is "an experienced woodsman." He then builds a makeshift shelter for Marge, Lisa and Maggie, and takes Bart along with him to find help. Marge and Lisa watch as Maggie follows behind Homer and Bart; however, they are not aware of Maggie behind them. When Homer and Bart hear Maggie sucking on her pacifier they think it is a rattle snake and take off running scared leaving Maggie far behind. Homer and Bart then stumble through some brush and end up falling off another cliff and into a raging river below. Meanwhile Marge and Lisa seem to be just fine, they are tidying up their camp and have built a much better shelter for themselves. Cut to Maggie who has been left all alone, a bear approaches her on its hind legs and roars; Maggie unafraid sticks an extra pacifier in the bear's mouth which calms the bear down. After Homer and Bart fall down a waterfall Homer sees Bart's lucky cap float by and he thinks Bart has drowned. Bart tells a crying Homer, "Don't have a cow man." Homer is relived to see Bart alive and they both realize they are now naked after falling over the waterfall. Back to Maggie, who is being carried by the bear back to its cave where she is accepted as one of the group by 3 other bears. Meanwhile, Homer and Bart look for food after clothing themselves with shrubbery. Homer's attempts at catching rabbits for food fail. Back to Maggie, the bears find another family of campers and steal things from their site, like a bottle and baby toys and bring them back to Maggie. Meanwhile it is nighttime and Marge and Lisa have made themselves a fire and get ready for bed, while miles away Homer and Bart shiver without a fire and try to go to sleep and Maggie is sleeping warmly with her new family of bears.

The next morning Homer and Bart look for food and come across a bee hive. When Homer steals some honey the bees attack him. To stave off the bees Homer jumps into a muddy stream where a naturalist cameraman is filming footage a deer. The cameraman runs off scared after seeing Homer covered in mud and screaming incoherently due to the big glob of honey still in his mouth. Cut to a breaking news report claiming the existence of Bigfoot and using the footage of Homer as proof. A 5000 dollar reward is offered for "Bigfoot's" capture. The next day at the edge of the forest Bigfoot mania has set in, people are selling Bigfoot memorabilia and the press is everywhere covering the event. Marge and Lisa, who have been found by a park ranger, are surprised to see all the excitement and they realize it is Homer and not Bigfoot everyone is after. Meanwhile, Homer and Bart, accidentally come across the bear cave with Maggie inside, just before the bears are about to maul Homer and Bart, Maggie communicates to the bears that it is okay. Homer takes Maggie back and along with Bart they wander back out into the woods. After awhile Homer is spotted in the forest by hunters looking for Bigfoot and is shot by a tranquilizer gun. After being tested and studied Homer is released to go back home. Dr. Marvin Monroe announces at a press conference that the evidence is inconclusive as to whether or not Homer is Bigfoot. Homer and Marge watch the press conference just before going to bed and Marge consoles an upset Homer who is worried about the teasing he is going to receive at work.
"Moaning Lisa" is the sixth episode of season 1. It originally aired on February 11, 1990. The episode was written by Al Jean and Mike Reiss and directed by Wes Archer. It features the first appearance of Bleeding Gums Murphy.

Synopsis
Lisa meets a new friend, Bleeding Gums Murphy, a jazz musician who helps her cope with the blues. Meanwhile, Bart and Homer duke it out in video game boxing.

Plot
The episode starts with a sad Lisa staring at herself in the mirror in the bathroom while Homer pounds on the door waiting for his turn. Later in the kitchen before work Homer searches for his keys, while Bart and Lisa eat breakfast before school. Lisa finds the keys still in the front door. Marge only has two cupcakes for Homer, Bart and Lisa; Lisa defers the cupcakes to Homer and Bart, she is clearly depressed. During band practice at school the band plays terrible while Lisa jams away expertly with her saxophone much to the dislike of the band teacher Mr. Largo. At lunch during a food fight Lisa does nothing but sit and look sad. During gym class while playing dodgeball Lisa doesn’t move and gets pummeled by dodgeballs, all while looking sad. After school in the living room Bart and Homer play a boxing video game called Super Slugfest. Homer suffers his 49th loss at the hands of Bart while Marge walks and shows Homer a note from school about Lisa.

The note is a progress report from Principal Skinner informing Homer and Marge that Lisa was too sad to play dodgeball at school. Homer attempts to discover the cause of Lisa’s sadness and Lisa tells Homer she wonders if the world would be any different if she didn’t exist. When Homer clearly can't come up with a good quick answer Marge tells Lisa to take a hot bath and Homer tells Bart to vacuum the floor. When Lisa is done with her bath she walks into the living room where Bart is still vacuuming and is not happy about it. Maggie sits by herself on the couch watching Bart and Lisa. In an effort to see who Maggie likes more both Bart and Lisa coax her to each other, instead Maggie chooses the TV. Later Homer and Bart are playing Super Slugfest again where Bart easily wins again, Homer blames the loss on Lisa’s loud saxophone playing. Homer goes up to Lisa’s room to yell at her. Lisa agrees to just practice on playing the notes without blowing into the saxophone. After Homer leaves the room, Lisa hears a saxophone playing off in the distance outside her window and leaves the house to go find the source. Lisa walks through the town at nighttime and discovers a man playing a saxophone alone on a bridge overpass. Back at the Simpson house everyone is asleep and Marge dreams about her childhood. In the dream Marge is a sad little girl and before going out to play her mother tells her to make sure she smiles. Homer also has a dream that he is trapped inside the boxing video game with Bart. Bart K.O.’s Homer and he wakes up screaming from his nightmare. Marge expresses her concern with Lisa’s sadness to Homer. Meanwhile Lisa is jamming with the man who introduces himself as Bleeding Gums Murphy. Lisa and Bleeding Gums play the blues together, and he tells Lisa he plays at a club called the Jazz Hole when a worried Marge, after realizing Lisa is gone, shows up to bring her home.

Homer watches a news report in the living room when he discovers Barney's Bowlarama has burned down. He runs in the kitchen to tell Marge the bad news, but Marge is fretting over Lisa. Bart enters the kitchen and Marge tells him to go find Lisa and act nice to her and cheer her up. Bart goes and finds Lisa and in an effort to cheer her up he plays a prank phone call on Moe, Lisa is not amused. Cut to Homer walking into the local video arcade. Homer seeks advice on Super Slugfest from Howard at the arcade. After some time Homer feels he has learned enough tricks to defeat Bart. Meanwhile Marge takes Lisa to band practice, and on the way Marge tells Lisa to smile and keep her true feelings inside so she can fit in with the other kids. Marge drops off Lisa in front of the school and observes Lisa fake smiling and interacting with the other kids. Marge sees that she has reduced Lisa to a child without opinion or complaint. Mr. Largo comes out of the school to gather the children in for practice and tells Lisa he hopes he doesn’t hear any more creativity from her again today. This makes Marge realize the error of her ways and she quickly does a tire squealing u-turn, snatches Lisa and drives away. In the car Marge apologizes and tells Lisa it is okay to be sad and that she should always be herself no matter what. Lisa is now once again happy. Back at the house Bart and Homer are playing Super Slugfest again and this time Homer puts Bart on the ropes and dominates the fight. Marge walks in to make announcement and Homer is too busy winning to listen. Much to Homer’s dismay Marge pulls the plug on the video game to gain his attention. Bart announces that he has retired from the world of video game boxing undefeated. Marge then tells the family that Lisa has a fun idea for everyone. Cut to the club, The Jazz Hole, where the family listens to Bleeding Gums play a blues song written by Lisa.
