When we first see it, there are 6 pictures shown. 2 larger ones on the right side, and 4 smaller pictures vertically down the left side. The picture in question is the large one in the bottom right corner. Originally, it is Moe in Egypt with the jar, and then when they do all the close up pictures, it suddenly changes to a picture of Moe & his jar laying on the beach.
'''''The Simpsons Arcade Game''''' is an arcade game released in March 4, 1991 and this is the first Simpsons video game ever. The game was made in 1990 but they released it in 1991. This game was based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game which was released in 1989 and made by the same company, Konami. The game was ported on Arcade, PC and Commodore 64.

==Plot==
[[File:The Simpsons Arcade.png|thumb|The arcade version.]]
The Simpsons are walking in the street when Smithers, who stole a diamond from a Jewel Shop for Mr. Burns, accidentally bumps into Homer. This sends the diamond flying and landing in Maggie's mouth. Smithers kidnaps Maggie and runs off with the diamond in her mouth, prompting the Simpsons to pursue him and attempt to rescue Maggie. On the way, they encounter goons hired by Mr. Burns to stop the family from getting Maggie back and are forced to fight them.

After defeating several goons (including the wrestler [[Professor Werner Von Brawn]]), they chase Smithers into [[Krustyland]], where they are attacked by Clowns and rabbits (from [[Matt Groening]]'s original cartoon [[Life in Hell]]). They corner Smithers on a Krusty balloon but the balloon pops, sending the family and Smithers falling down to [[Springfield Cemetery]]. Zombies waken up by [[Mr. Burns]] rise from their graves and attack the Simpsons family, but the family fight them off. The Simpsons family then follow Smithers into [[Moes Tavern]], where they encounter several mobsters and a Drunk which they are forced to fight.

The Simpsons later follow Smithers to the Springfield Butte. Smithers is fleeing from a bear and carries Maggie towards a river, and the Simpsons follow his trail, battling woodsmen and apes on he way. The bear that was chasing Smithers went to kill the Simpsons, but the family defeat the bear. Smithers escapes by helicopter and the Simpsons family are sent down a large waterfall and are knocked out. In their coma, the Simpsons envision themselves in the clouds and in their minds they battle a gigantic bowling ball. After waking up, they see the helicopter landing on top of the [[Channel 6]] studio. They get in the studio and see Scott Christian doing a news report on Maggie's kidnapping. They have a brief battle with a Japanese Kabuki Warrior before hopping on a helicopter to the Springfield Power Plant, where Smithers has taken Maggie.

At the Power Plant, the Simpsons family confront Smithers, who battles them with bombs.When Smithers is defeated, Mr. Burns breaks through the wall inside a large machine which attacks with Bombs, Lasers, Missiles and Pincers, and starts a climatic battle agains the Simpsons. After a long fight, Burns is defeated, and the Simpsons rescue Maggie, who places her pacifier into Mr. Burns' mouth. They celebrate along with [[Grampa]], [[Patty and Selma]]. In the end, Homer throws the diamond away and Maggie puts her pacifier back into her mouth.

*[[Nuclear Power Plant]]

==Gameplay==

The player chooses from one of the four Simpsons family members: Homer, who punches and kicks; Marge, who swings her vacuum cleaner; Bart, who wields his skateboard; and Lisa, who uses a jumprope like a whip. The game's levels are based on various locations from [[Springfield]], including Downtown, Krusty Land, the Graveyard, Moe's Tavern, Springfield Butte, a Dreamland, the Channel 6 studio and the Springfield Nucler Power Plant. Each level ends with a boss whose speed and strength would increase after taking a set amount of damage.

Although the game is one of many beat 'em ups produced after Final Fight, it contained many innovations, including the option for two players to team up and attack enemies, with the exact attack differing slightly depending on which two characters were being used. Food could be used for healing, and various weapons and items could be obtained for use for a short time or for a one-time projectile attack. These items were often brought into the game by other Simpsons characters, and the Simpsons' own pets could be used as thrown weapons at various points in the game. The Japanese version of the game included small scale nuclear bombs that, when thrown, clear all on-screen enemies, as well as a life bar that can be doubled by eating food when your character's health was full.

The main characters retained their voice actors from the show. The game features two minigames in which players competed against each other to be the first to finish a task (inflating a balloon shaped like their character in the first game, waking up their character in the second). The minigame was based on repeated button-pushing, with the player who pushed the buttons fastest winning. If fewer than four players were present, the player or players competed against 1-3 computer-controlled characters in these minigames.

The game featured many strange enemies, ranging from the infamous men in the purple suits, to battles with Bongo-like rabbits. The game included battling fat, old men; miniboss-like firemen; and even giant donuts. One of the visual gags in the game include Marge showing rabbit ears similar to the ''[[Life in Hell]]'' rabbits, like her skeletal silhouette when electrocuted.

She seems to be a bully, since Jimbo, [[Dolph]] and [[Kearney]] had to impress her throwing a duck's baby into the air, and according to Shauna, either the ducks suffer or [[Bart]] does.<ref>"[[The Good, the Sad and the Drugly]]"</ref> It is known she later made out with Jimbo, as she is watched kissing Jimbo by [[Ned Flanders|Ned]].<ref>"[[To Surveil With Love]]"</ref> However, it seems that they weren't in a relationship as Jimbo was invited by Shauna over [[SpringFace]] to make out with her, along with 200 guys and 7 girls, implying Shauna may be [[LGBT characters#Bisexual|bisexual]].
== Community discussion ==
OK, I really think we should have one of these like every four months or so. No need everyone going off and doing their own thing; we all need to be on one accord.

This is not intended to be a long rant by me. This is me opening up the discussion to the ENTIRE community on their concerns or ways to improve the wiki. So I’ll start…

First, an idea I have: Just because we’re an encyclopedia, doesn’t mean we have to look like one. We look dull. Is it any wonder why new editors never stay around, which is why I admire those that do month after month.

What am I saying? Let’s spruce the place up. I was hoping that when we moved over to Shout, we would makes ourselves look vastly cooler than Wikia. Instead, it’s the same old same old.

Whatever the case, my idea was this: Adding a poll, to be directly located under the infobox, to every episode article, allowing users to rate the episode. Remember, we’re fans of the show, first and foremost, and I for one would like to know what other fans think. Here’s an example:

<poll>
Rate “Who Shot Grampa’s Hat”.
A (Classic)
B (Very Good)
C (OK)
D (D'oh!)
E (Worst. Episode. Ever.)
</poll>

Then, each month, when we do the Featured Episode, we could display the average user rating (the one with the most votes), like so:

{| style="-moz-border-radius-topleft:10px; -moz-border-radius-topright:10px; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft:10px; -moz-border-radius-bottomright:10px; border:1px solid #{{Yellow color}}; background:#{{Yellow color}}; width:100%; color: black;"
|<div style="float:right;margin-left:1em">[[File:The simpsons tv.png|30px|link=]]</div><p style="margin: .5em 0 0 3%; text-align:left; font-size:122%; line-height: 1.0">'''{{SF|F}}{{SF|E}}{{SF|A}}{{SF|T}}{{SF|U}}{{SF|R}}{{SF|E}}{{SF|D}} {{SF|E}}{{SF|P}}{{SF|I}}{{SF|S}}{{SF|O}}{{SF|D}}{{SF|E}}'''</p>
|}
<div style="border: 1px solid #{{Yellow color dark}}; padding: .5em 1em; color: #000; background-color:transparent; margin: 3px 3px 0">
'''Old Money''' is the seventeenth episode of [[Season 2]]. It aired on March 28, 1991. It was written by [[Jay Kogen]] and [[Wallace Wolodarsky]] and was directed by [[David Silverman]]. Audrey Meadows guest starred in it as [[Bea Simmons]], Grampa's new girlfriend. [[Professor Frink]] makes his debut in the episode. The episode features references to films such as ''If I Had a Million'', and the ''Star Wars'' and ''Batman'' film franchises.

[[Grandpa Simpson]] falls in love with Bea Simmons, a fellow resident of the [[Springfield Retirement Castle]]. During the course of their brief romance, Bea passes away and leaves Grandpa her entire savings, $100,000. Grandpa decides to give the money to charity but can't decide which one is worthiest, but when he can't decide, Grampa heads for a casino to gamble it away.

'''Average User Rating: B''' - [[Old Money|Read more of this episode]] | [[Wikisimpsons:Previous Featured episode|More featured episodes]] | [[Wikisimpsons:Featured episode|Vote for Featured episode]]
<noinclude>[[Category:Templates]]</noinclude>
</div>

We don’t have to use the parenthetical info, I was just playing around. I don’t know if it’s possible, but we can make the poll signed–in users only, so it’s more legit.

Anyway, that was my idea. Now on to the more important matters. We gon’ nip all this s**t in the bud, TODAY! Just kidding, anyways…

Behind the Laughter. Originally, it irked me, the ‘L’ being capitalized. Unless it is a proper noun or the first word in the heading, it should be lowercase. But now it doesn’t much bother me. AS LONG as it just with ''that'' heading, and nothing else. However, we still need to reach a consensus as a community on whether it should be lowercase or uppercase.

I was on Wikisimpsons Forum, and saw a discussion about guestimating ages, etc. I completely agree. My general rule is that, unless it’s given in the show, don’t use it. If a character doesn’t have a last name, don’t make on up—even if they are married. What’s the point of being an encyclopedia if we’re not going to be accurate? We can call her Gloria Jailbird all we want to—until it’s stated as such in an episode (or one of ''The Simpsons: A Complete Guide'' books), the character is still officially just known as “Gloria”. Take Herbert Powell. If his last name had never been revealed, we’d have countless editors saying it’s “Simpson”. If a character’s age or birthdate is not given, don’t guess one. Just leave it blank. Only if a character says they’re in their 50s, or such, should we be putting that down.

Next, prose. Past or present, in–universe or out –of–universe is the question. Although, as I had expressed at one point, past sounds more professional, what I don’t like is how often, are articles come off as sounding like historical accounts: “once”, “at one point”, etc. Past tense is fine for out–of–universe, but ''in–universe and past tense don’t mix'' (Wikipedia has a [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(writing_about_fiction) list of the problems] with this, by the way - ''see "The problem with in-universe perspective"''), which is why I had suggested switching to out–of–universe. But, as Brian McClure once said, no sense trying to compete with Wikipedia, so I agree we should stay with in–universe. I will just suggest that our articles be written in present tense. Again, I use [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:TENSE#Tense Wikipedia’s reasoning] as to why.

Brian also suggested using in–paragraph citations like Lostpedia does, which I think is a great idea as you would have the reference right there and, again, it’s just one more thing we can do so we don’t look like your average, bland wiki encyclopedia, with a list of references at the bottom of every article.

Well, that’s it for me, for now. Again, feel free to express your concerns or ideas. [[User:TheUnderfaker|TheUnderfaker]] 16:55, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

:The Poll idea could be a good way to get people more involved, though its quite hard to make us look different to others wikis as we use MediaWiki like them. I presumed Behind the Laughter was capitalized as thats the episode name. Agree with the presumptions. They should all be removed when spotted. ----- A Kind of Madness - [[User:Mr. Blackadder|CJC ]]/[[User talk:Mr. Blackadder| Blackadder]] 17:03, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

::I like the idea. Not sure if the poll should go underneath the infobox though, maybe a link could be added '''inside''' the infobox which links to the poll? I think that would work better. Also, it would be more convenient to do this since a Transcript link will also be probably added to the template soon. Not fussed on changing how we do the referencing though... [[User:Effluvium|Effluvium]] 17:14, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Whoever came up with the [[Family Guy]] idea is a genius. But I think [[Moe]] should be Quagmire![[User:Dolph|Dolph]] 19:17, 31 March 2012 (EDT)Dolph
:::I like the poll under the infobox however. It could be integrated into the template somehow. The whole tense thing is awkward though. I feel that it should be in past tense as these events have already happened. Episodes should be in present tense though. If you guys want, we could try out the new referencing, maybe even make a template for this, making the ref. smaller and up, like the actual reference numbers. The articles should not be put out of in-universe style as we have often spent so long putting them like this in the first place. ☆<span style="font-family:Algerian">[[User:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:green">The</span>]] [[User talk:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:red">Solar</span>]] [[Special:Contributions/Solar Dragon|<span style="color:blue">Dragon</span>]]</span>☆ 17:27, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
::::Let me be clear: I think we should continue to use in-universe, and that episode plots should be written in past tense. It's just that I think all other articles, characters, locations, would be better served written in present tense.
::::And, Blackadder, there's always things we can do to make the wiki look better. For example, do our infoboxes have to look so...lame. [[User:TheUnderfaker|TheUnderfaker]] 17:38, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
:::::LAME? I love the new infoboxes! I'm not fussed on the EpisodePrevNext template since it was redesigned however, but the infoboxes are awesome! I don't think we should change the infoboxes, before anyone goes there! [[User:Effluvium|Effluvium]] 17:42, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
::::::Mhhh... I don't like the poll inside the infobox. Nor inside the article (like pictures). It'd be the same problem as ads. Big squares taking space. Oh, wait, I have an idea. The poll inside the infobox, but hidden, using the show/hide function, like the Wikisimpsons at Wikia. {{User:TheHomer/sig}} 17:48, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
:::::::Yeah, that could work! [[User:Effluvium|Effluvium]] 17:51, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
::::::::I wasn'tsuggesting the poll be ''in'' the infobox, just under it. [[User:TheUnderfaker|TheUnderfaker]] 17:55, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
:::::::::But under the infobox, it takes too much space. {{User:TheHomer/sig}} 18:00, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
::::::::::The poll integrated into it might be good with a show/hide feature. This would take up less space too. That is a good idea. Under it without the show/hide feature would take up too much space. Effluvium, we could remove the border on the EpisodePrevnext box as that was actually an accident and I never got round to removing it before another user changed the coding for the rest of them. Also, just thought you should know that I am in talks to get the Portuguese Wikisimpsons moved here. ☆<span style="font-family:Algerian">[[User:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:green">The</span>]] [[User talk:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:red">Solar</span>]] [[Special:Contributions/Solar Dragon|<span style="color:blue">Dragon</span>]]</span>☆ 18:03, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
:::::::::::My thinking was that we would just format the width of the poll to match the infobox if we put it underneath, but show/hide inside the infobox is fine. [[User:TheUnderfaker|TheUnderfaker]] 18:06, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
::::::::::::Yeah, show/hide is better, IMO. And OK, Solar, we'll get round to that sometime :) [[User:Effluvium|Effluvium]] 18:07, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
:::::::::::::But... I don't know how to implement that feature. We could call Smiley, or ask at Spanish Wikisimpsons. They use a template or something with a parameter to hide the box. We have a different style that does not work here. Either copying their javascript code, or, I don't know, asking them to help us. {{User:TheHomer/sig}} 18:09, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
::::::::::::::I'm sure that either me or ShoutWiki's staff could figure it out. I'm guessing that they use the same show/hide code as us and it is just a matter of implementing it into the infobox. ☆<span style="font-family:Algerian">[[User:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:green">The</span>]] [[User talk:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:red">Solar</span>]] [[Special:Contributions/Solar Dragon|<span style="color:blue">Dragon</span>]]</span>☆ 18:15, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Hm, the poll appears to be working now. So I guess we can implement it, then. [[User:TheUnderfaker|TheUnderfaker]] 15:48, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
== A Few Ideas ==

I have a few ideas on how to improve this wiki. Please comment.

1. Instead of projects why don't we have a project-portal thing. If you're wondering what portals are here's an [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Association_football example]. It's a good way to add some colour to this wiki.

2. As well as having a general Featured Article why can't we have seperate articles for different subjects e.g. Featured Character, Featured Location etc. (In the project page)

3. Always put suitable names for images.

Again, please comment. {{dohsig}}

1. A portal for projects is a bit silly. Just a list of them will do.

2. The main page is already full enough. We couldn't possibly fit anything else on to it.

3. This is something I have been doing a lot and making sure all images are under good names. They are normally uploaded under good names now too. ☆<span style="font-family:Algerian">[[User:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:green">The</span>]] [[User talk:Solar Dragon|<span style="color:red">Solar</span>]] [[Special:Contributions/Solar Dragon|<span style="color:blue">Dragon</span>]]</span>☆ 14:16, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

:I know it's an old topic but i think the portal idea is good. A portal for characters, comics and so on. [[User:FatHomer|<b><span style="color: teal">FatHomer</span></b>]][[User talk:FatHomer|Talk]] 04:22, 5 August 2011 (EDT)
:::We have links in the sidebar. That's more than enough. ::::We hade Comics before on sidebar but, when we create the "other" wiki, we removed it. Should we not move it back now? /[[User:AleWi|AleWi]] 11:40, 26 January 2012 (EST)

== Wiki Stats ==

I think the sidebar should have <nowiki>** Special:Statistics|{{NUMBEROFUSERS}} users</nowiki>. [[User:FatHomer|<b><span style="color: teal">FatHomer</span></b>]][[User talk:FatHomer|Talk]] 04:02, 28 January 2012 (EST)
{{Realworld}}
'''''The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family''''' is a book published in 1997 by HarperCollins. It was edited by Ray Richmond and Antonia Coffman; [[Matt Groening]] receives credit as the creator of ''[[The Simpsons]]'', the television series upon which the book is based, and for an introduction to the book.

Although the title includes the word "Complete," the book is rather an [[Episode guide|episode-by-episode]] history of ''The Simpsons'', as the fictional story that appears on television; a non-fictional, behind-the-scenes history of the television show is almost neglected. As it is printed in 1997, only the first eight seasons that had aired by then are covered. Nevertheless, the book is notable as a "definitive guide." If Groening's foreword is to be believed, the book was nearly titled ''Encyclopedia Simpsonica''.

== Features ==
On pages 10–11 are short biographies of each of the five immediate members of the Simpson family, namely [[Homer Simpson|Homer]], [[Marge Simpson|Marge]], [[Bart Simpson|Bart]], [[Lisa Simpson|Lisa]] and [[Maggie Simpson|Maggie]]. Short biographies of other ''Simpsons'' characters are also available as sidebars to each episode's page, starting with [[Santa's Little Helper]] for "[[Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire]]" and ending with Willem Dafoe's Commandant from "[[The Secret War of Lisa Simpson]]." Each full-length episode receives one-page coverage, or two-page coverage, featuring a synopsis, credits, pictures, and memorable quotes, as well as the episode's blackboard joke. Obscure or hidden jokes are also brought to attention.

The episodes are arranged in chronological order, and at the beginning of each season are two-page special features, such as a list and brief description of the [[The Tracey Ullman Show shorts|''Simpsons'' shorts]], a list of times Homer has cried "[[D'oh]]!", and a list of [[Itchy and Scratchy]]'s cartoons.

== Sequels ==
Printed in 1997, the book only covers the seasons which had been aired by that time (the first eight). Thus, it is followed by two sequels, ''The Simpsons Forever!'', covering seasons 9 and 10, and ''The Simpsons Beyond Forever!'', covering seasons 11 and 12. These three volumes have in turn been collected and re-published as ''The Ultimate Simpsons in a Big Ol' Box.'' This was followed by a third sequel, ''The Simpsons One Step Beyond Forever!'', covering seasons 13 and 14.

== References on the show ==
As an in-joke, the Guide made an actual appearance in the 2003 episode "[[Today, I Am a Clown]]", where Lisa uses it to remind Homer that Santa's Little Helper was supposedly neutered in a previous episode. However, the episode proves her information false.
*Much of the episode is based on the {{W|Watergate scandal}} and borrows many elements from the film ''{{w|All the President's Men (film)|All the President's Men}}'' which focused on the investigation into the incident by {{w|Bob Woodward}} and {{w|Carl Bernstein}}. These include the meeting with Smithers and the overheard shot of Lisa in the library. Also, Lisa compares herself and Bart to Woodward and Bernstein.
*Bob's aides are parodies of [[Richard Nixon]]'s advisors during Watergate, {{w|H. R. Haldeman}} and {{w|John Ehrlichman}}.
*Quimby's appearance at the debate mimics Nixon's appearance at the 1960 Presidential debate after he had just recovered from a cold.
*[[Birch Barlow]] is a parody of conservative talk-show host {{W|Rush Limbaugh}}.
*The title is a reference to the film ''{{w|Bob Roberts}}'', a 1992 film following the eponymous politician, suggesting that success comes from shady deals, hypocrisy and deceit. Bob enters the meeting wrapped in an American flag, a reference to the film's poster.
*Archie, Jughead and Reggie from {{w|Archie Comics}} throw Homer out of their car, while Moose says "Duh, stay out of Riverdale!". It is not known how he met them or what he did to offend them.
**Homer later refers to them again; he is seen reading an ''Archies'' comic and comments, "Riverdale punks, think they're too good for me!"
*In court, Bob says, "You want the truth? You can't handle the truth!" quoting {{w|Jack Nicholson}}'s famous line from the movie ''{{w|A Few Good Men}}''.
*Birch Barlow mentions the cartoon spokesperson {{w|Joe Camel}}.
==Trivia==
*Sideshow Bob was released by Democratic mayor Joe Quimby after pressure from Republican-inspired protests. In "[[Black Widower]]" he claimed he and his prisonmates would be released on the streets once the Democrats were back in power.

'''Julio''' is a gay man living in [[Springfield]].

== History ==
Julio once lived as a straight man and was married to a woman named [[Adriatica Vel Johnson]]. He later embraced the gay lifestyle, and he and [[Grady]] became partners and moved in together. They had a three-bedroom apartment, but at one point had lost their third person and were looking for a replacement roommate.

At that time, Julio and Grady met [[Homer]]. Homer had found a note that [[Marge]] had written before they had gotten married where she said she wasn't sure she wanted to be with him. Upset, Homer moved out of the house and went looking for a new place to live. He wandered into [[Springfield]]'s [[Gay Neighborhood]], saw that Julio and Grady were looking for a roommate, and promptly moved in with them. Eventually Homer moved back home when he discovered that Marge really loved him after all.<ref name="[[Three Gays of the Condo]]">"[[Three Gays of the Condo]]"</ref>

Some time after that, Julio and Grady broke up and Julio married [[Thad]], with Homer officiating at their ceremony.<ref>"[[There's Something About Marrying]]"</ref> Later, however, Julio had an affair with [[Duffman]].<ref>"[[Homer And Lisa Exchange Cross Words]]"</ref> What effect the affair had on his relationship with Thad is not definitively known, but since Julio later admitted to flirting with a co-worker, presumably he and Thad are no longer together.<ref name="[[The Blue and the Gray]]">"[[The Blue and the Gray]]"</ref>

Julio was once a hostage in a bank robbery where Marge was also one of the hostages.<ref>"[[I Don't Wanna Know Why the Caged Bird Sings]]"</ref> He is also a customer at [[The League of Extra-Horny Gentlemen]], a fashionable gay nightclub.<ref>"[[Flaming Moe]]"</ref>

Julio is a professional photographer. He once took pictures of Marge and her friends, who were making a sexy history-themed calendar for a charity fund-raiser. Marge was reluctant to show any skin at all, so Julio had her drink some wine to loosen up. The wine had a greater effect than Julio had intended, as Marge ended up revealing far more than she had planned. Julio's pictures of Marge's pin-up poses became the talk of the town.<ref name="[[The Devil Wears Nada]]">"[[The Devil Wears Nada]]"</ref>

In addition to photography, Julio works as a hairdresser at [[Hairy Shearers]], where [[Marge Simpson]] is one of his longtime customers. When Marge came in for an appointment and told Julio about finding her first gray hair, Julio confessed that he had been secretly dyeing her hair blue for years, so that she had never noticed any gray hairs before. To prove it, Julio showed Marge her gray roots beneath the blue-dyed hair, which shocked her.<ref name="[[The Blue and the Gray]]"/>

== Non-canon ==
{{Noncanon}}
Julio played the part of the angry king of Spain, who tried to destroy England with an armada of ships, but failed.<ref>"[[Four Great Women and a Manicure]]"</ref>

A Spanish version of Julio appeared, whacking [[Krusty the Clown]]. However, it's uncertain whether it was actually Julio, or even whether it actually happened.<ref>"[[Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind]]"</ref>

== Behind the Laughter ==
*Julio's name is pronounced as it would be in Spanish, with the "J" sounded as an English "H".
*Julio is voiced by [[Hank Azaria]], who uses a gay lisp as he did for his character in the movie ''{{w|The Birdcage}}''.
**The "bra bomb" prank is strongly reminiscient of the "laser-popped popcorn" prank at the end of the movie ''{{w|Real Genius}}''.
*[[Springfield University]] dean [[Bobby Peterson]] says he used to play bass for the {{w|Pretenders_(band)|Pretenders}}.
*''{{w|Star Trek}}'' and the {{w|Massachusetts Institute of Technology}} - The nerds are involved in an online "Kirk vs. Picard" debate with "some guys at M.I.T."
*The song playing during the closing credits is "{{w|Louie Louie}}" by {{w|The Kingsmen}}, which was also a staple of ''Animal House''.
*The {{w|Monty Python}} dialogue that [[Benjamin]], [[Doug (nerd)|Doug]] and [[Gary (nerd)|Gary]] perform for [[Homer]] is from the "{{w|Knights who say Ni}}" sequence in ''{{w|Monty Python and the Holy Grail}}''.
*Benjamin, Doug and Gary's dorm room number is 222, a reference to the TV show ''{{w|Room 222}}''.
*The "Jade Monkey" request that [[Mr. Burns]] makes to Homer Simpson is a reference to ''{{w|The Maltese Falcon}}''.
**Contrary to popular belief, it is '''not''' a reference to ''{{w|Looney Tunes: Back in Action}}'', as this episode far predates the film.
*Mr. Burns' attempt at bribing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission [[Nuclear Inspectors|inspectors]] is a parody of ''{{w|Let's Make a Deal}}''.
*Mr. Burns' attempt to beat a member of [[Springfield University]]'s Board of Directors with a baseball bat (which he barely notices, and which does no harm to him) is a reference to the 1987 ''{{w|The Untouchables (film)|Untouchables}}'' movie.

== Trivia ==
*[[Homer]] steals a [[Sir Oinks-A-Lot|pig]] in this episode, causing a disaster. Ironically, Homer later acquires a [[Plopper|pet pig]] that causes a disaster in ''[[The Simpsons Movie]]''.
*According to ''The Simpsons Guide to America's Favorite Family'' (and shown in this episode), Homer did attempt to apply to college in his youth. His high school guidance counselor told him he was a shoo-in for admission, and the only remaining step was to sign the application form. Homer was just about to sign when he looked out the window, saw a dog with a piece of ham, and ran outside to fight with the dog for it. He never made it back into the counselor's office to sign the application, and the frustrated counselor crumpled up the form and threw it in the trash. Homer, recalling the incident, said that "fate stood in the way" of his going to college.
*When [[Mr. Burns]] tells Homer that he needs to go to college, Bart jokingly asks, "College? Barber or Clown?" Ironically, in a later episode, "[[Homie the Clown]]", Homer does end up going to a clown college.
*The idea of a "bra bomb" (as well as an "atomic bra bomb") is also seen in the [[Simpsons Comics]] story "[[Bart and Milhouse: Bore Us-The Movie-Gruel]]".

== Goofs ==
*During the bra bomb prank in the movie ''[[School of Hard Knockers]]'', the President is shown with five fingers instead of four while he dances in the rain of bras.
*When [[Mr. Burns]] tries to escape the meltdown in the [[Nuclear Inspection Van]], his escape pod crashes, bouncing several times in the parking lot. In the next scene, he is completely unharmed, in spite of the crash and his failure to fasten his seat belt (just before he launches the pod, Burns is shown putting his feet up on the pod's other seat instead of buckling himself in).
*When Homer is driving his car, he is disappointed to hear ''{{w|(They Long to Be) Close to You|They Long to Be Close to You}}'' by the Carpenters, but is in better spirits when he changes the station to hear ''{{w|Space Cowboy}}'' by the Steve Miller Band, to which he sings along. However, ''They Long to be Close to You'', plays in Homer's mind when he first lays eyes on Marge, indicating love at first sight. ''Space Cowboy'' plays over the closing credits.
*The [[Yakkin' About the Movies|television show]] they are watching in the beginning is a parody of the television series ''{{w|At the Movies (U.S. TV series)|Siskel and Ebert and The Movies}}''.

== Trivia ==
*Grandpa and Homer dined on a bucket of Shakespeare Fried Chicken.
*This is the first episode where we see Homer smoking (he smokes cigarettes in the bathroom as a teen). He would also smoke cigars and pipes in later episodes.
*The articles in "Ms. Magazine" are: "Why all men are bad," "Hating and Dating: Do they mix?" and "25 reasons not to shave your armpits"
*The Larry Davis Experience (from 7G01) play at the prom.
*Mr. Seckofsky (the shop teacher) is missing a finger.
*Homer has posters of Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.
*Marge says they were seniors in high school together, so that would mean that they are the same age. However, it has been established that Homer is 39, and Marge is 34. Is it possible that Homer got held back in school five times? He sure didnt look 23 when he was a senior. This is just one of the many weird things in the show about Homer aging, but nobody else.

== Goofs ==
*Homer's guidance counselor's door reads M-Z, but the counselor says N-Z.

== Continuity ==
*Homer dismisses English class as worthless because "I am never going to go to [[England]]!" However, Homer tours England in "[[The Regina Monologues]]".
*A brief scene of "[[I Married Marge]]" is shown, but it would not be until the following season that the story would be told in its entirety.
*Although they think it is the first time they met, Marge and Homer will find out that when they were little kids they met at a summer camp in [[The Way We Weren't]].
*''They Long to Be Close to You'' is heard again in ''[[The Simpsons Movie]]'' when Homer watches his wedding video.
*When Homer is given the pamphlet about the Power Plant he is told it does not need collage education yet in Homer Goes To Collage he does.

Some Wikisimpsons members have formed a project to better organize efforts to write and improve articles about characters. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page, or sign up below.

=Project Characters=

==Aims==
Project Characters aims to write articles on all one time and recurring characters of the Simpsons cartoon.

==How you can help==
You can help by opening the [[Character Guide]] and selecting any character that is a stub (or not a stub) and expand it using your general knowledge or from other facts and figures. Some of the existing character articles need to be modified to comply with the project standard (see below). You can check [[:Character Stubs]] to see which articles need expanding.

Some articles need pictures. Help them by adding a picture of the character by uploading a new one. If you see an article without the infobox template, add one immediately.
==Participants==
To join the project, simply add your name to the bottom of the list. If you are unsure on how to do this, ask an admin for assistance.
==Article that Needs Work==
Some articles need a lot of work put into them. Every couple of months we will have an article that needs lots of work. This months is:

<center><big>[[Ms. Finch]]</big></center>

==Needed Characters==
Articles for these characters have yet to be created:
*<s>The [[OmniTouch representative]] from "[[Make Room for Lisa]]"</s>
*The [[Southern Gentleman]] from "[[E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)]]"
*Dr. [[Stacey Swanson]]
*[[Joey (mafia)|Joey]], [[Fat Tony]]'s third henchman (with the face scar) from "[[Bart the Murderer]]"
*[[Nick Callahan]] from "[[Realty Bites]]"
*<strike>[[Antoine O'Hara]]. This article now links to [[The Rich Texan]] for some reason, but it shouldn't. O'Hara is the character from "[[Dancin' Homer]]".</strike>
*The [[Mathemagician]] from "[[Grade School Confidential]]"
*[[The Commandant ("The Secret War of Lisa Simpson")|The Commandant]] from "[[The Secret War of Lisa Simpson]]"
*All red links in the [[Template:Simpsons World factfiles|Simpsons World factfiles template]].

If you notice a character has no article yet, if it's easier, just create the article yourself. If it is a number of characters, add them here so the community can help out.

== Status parameter ==
With the new design for infoboxes, a new parameter has been added, the "status" parameter. Most character pages have "unknown" as status. You can help by adding <code>|status=Alive</code> if the character is alive or <code>|status=Deceased</code> if the character is dead, to all infoboxes in character articles.

==Structure of an article==
===Character infobox===
{{Character
|image= Example
|name= Example
|gender= {{Male}} or {{Female}}
|hair= Example
|age= Example
|height= Example
|job= Example
|relatives= '''Parents''': Example
|appearance= Example
|voiced by= Example
}}

At the start of each character article should be the character infobox with a picture of the character, their gender, hair, age, job, relatives, episode they first appeared in, and their voice actor(s) (see right).

=== The Article Itself ===
The article should be written in Simpsons universe view, without mentioning episode names in the text. Episodes should be referenced with the <nowiki><ref>[[Episode Name]]</ref></nowiki> and have:
<pre>
== References ==
<references/>
</pre>
At the bottom of the article.
Episode names are only allowed in the infobox, trivia, appearances, and references. If you come across an article about a character that is not written In Simpsons Universe view, then you cn help by fixing it, or by adding <nowiki>{{In-universe}}</nowiki> to the top of the article to make
{{In-universe}}

===Appearances===
For a very minor character, a list would be fine, for a recurring character, the following is used.
A list of every Ulmann Short, Episode, Game, comic, and Movie this character appeared in.
e.g.
{{scroll
|content=
* {{Ul|Good Night}}
* {{Ep|Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire}}
* {{THOH|Treehouse of Horror}}
* {{Mov}}
* {{Bon|The Amazing Colossal Homer}}
* {{Game|The Simpsons: Hit and Run}}
* {{Bk|The Simpsons Uncensored Family Album}}
* {{Ad|Hard Times}}
}}

===Navigational Templates ===
Below is a list of the templates which can be added at the end of the page. Each page should have
== Trivia ==
*[[Apu Nahasapeemapetilon|Apu]] announces that there is a snake hidden in the [[Kwik-E-Mart|store]]. The first person to find it wins a free Squishee.
*The [[Springfield Christian School]] sign reads "We Put the Fun in Fundamentalist Dogma".
*At the episode's end, [[Nelson Muntz|Nelson]] and [[Jimbo Jones|Jimbo]] get emotional in the civic defense shelter, where they and their two bully buddies have been the whole show. LOOK CLOSELY at [[Kearney Zzyzwicz|Kearney's]] face; you can see stubble around his mouth. This is one of many gags throughout the series that he is much older than a typical (or any) elementary school student should be.
*{{w|Bob Woodward}} is the author of ''[[The Truth About Whacking Day]]''. One piece of information he reveals is that [[Richard Nixon]] once participated in Whacking Day. Ironically, Woodward and his partner {{w|Carl Bernstein}} were the investigative reporters responsible for breaking the story on the {{w|Watergate scandal}}, which eventually led to Nixon's resignation from the Presidency.
*[[Matt Groening]] once said that he feels they crossed the line by having Lovejoy make up quotes out of the Bible.
*Whacking Day is on May 10.
*Twice in this episode Homer is seen coming home in his car, forgetting about Marge homeschooling Bart in the garage. Both times, he manages to stop the car just inches away from Bart.
*[[Untitled Itchy & Scratchy cartoon (Whacking Day)|''The Itchy and Scratchy'' cartoon]] in this episode is a parody of {{w|Jack Ruby}} shooting {{w|JFK}}'s alleged killer, {{w|Lee Harvey Oswald}}, with [[Scratchy]] being arrested before being shot by [[Itchy]]. *During the tour of the Duff Brewery, the three vats are marked "Duff", "Duff Light", "Duff Dry". The vats are filled by the same pipe, indicating different names for exactly the same product. This may be reference to a urban legend that some gas stations hooked up their regular, plus, and super unleaded to the same tank, charging more money for customers who bought plus or super while getting the same product.
*In the syndicated version both [[Martin Prince]] and [[Nelson Muntz]]'s exhibits at the Science Fair were removed. Martin had a flying balloon which was deflated from a B.B. "'''Marge Gets a Job'''" is the seventh episode of [[season 4]]. It originally aired on November 5, 1992. The episode was written by [[Bill Oakley]] and [[Josh Weinstein]], while [[Jeffrey Lynch]] directed.
==Synopsis==

When the house needs expensive repairs, [[Marge]] is forced to get a job to help make ends meet. She is hired at the nuclear power plant and [[Mr. Burns]] quickly becomes attracted to her. Meanwhile, [[Bart]] tries his darnedest to get out of taking a test at school.
== Plot ==
In this episode, the Simpson's house is sinking (or, by the looks of it, tipping over) and they have to somehow raise $8500 to repair the foundations. Against [[Homer Simpson|Homer's]] wishes, [[Marge Simpson|Marge]] gets a job at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant; the job was previously held by the newly retired — even though he did not want to retire, and was only an excuse so Mr. [[Burns]] could host a party — [[Jack Marley]].

Meanwhile, Bart does not want to take a test at school, so he fakes a stomachache. This causes Mrs. Krabappel to ask him, "Bart, have you ever read The Boy Who Cried Wolf?"

From his office, Mr. Burns watches surveillance footage of his plant without enthusiasm. When Marge appears, however, he is enamored and begins a crusade to win her affection. He begins to take advice as to cheer up things around the plant; for example, "Funny Hat Day" and Tom Jones music.

Bart returns to school, but when [[Mrs. Krabappel]] suggests that he take a make-up test, he immediately begins to groan. ("Ohh, my ovaries!") Grandpa comes to pick him up and on the way home, references The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Again, Bart is unfazed.

When he returns to school once more, he is forced to take the make-up test. He begins to protest, but Mrs. Krabappel is unimpressed. "Bart," she says. "To avoid this test, you've had smallpox, the bends, and that unfortunate bout of Tourette's syndrome." She places him alone outside the classroom, hands him the test, and leaves.

At [[Krustylu Studios]], the taping of [[Krusty the Clown|Krusty the Clown's]] latest show is not going well. A wildlife expert is visiting, and with her is a large hawk and an Alaskan timberwolf, who she warns is spooked by loud noises. Unfortunately for the wolf, "loud" is the word of the day (a la "Pee-Wee's Playhouse"). Celebration and noise ensues, and the terrified animal panics and escapes the studio.

It runs to Springfield Elementary School, where it attacks Bart outside the classroom. He cries, "Wolf!" but Mrs. Krabappel ignores his pleas. Groundskeeper Willie rescues him only after serious damage has been done, and after all of Bart's lies, no one believes that he was attacked by a wolf. Since he feels that he will not be believed, he decides to say that he made it up, thus showing a "little honesty" to Mrs. Krabappel. He then passes out on the floor. Grandpa takes him to the hospital, while Willie gives the wolf some rubbing alcohol and consoles him about losing, saying that "I was wrestling wolves back when you was at your mother's teat."

Meanwhile, Mr. Burns attempts (with the help of a hostage [[wikipedia:Tom Jones|Tom Jones]], whom Marge stated was her favorite singer) to seduce Marge, but when she tells him that she's married, he fires her. She threatens a lawsuit and enlists the help of Lionel Hutz, who is completely unsuccessful and runs yelping from Mr. Burns's squad of real lawyers.

Mr. Burns has a change of heart after seeing how Homer would stand up for Marge. The episode ends as Homer and Marge enjoy a private show performed by the chained-up and protesting Tom Jones who secretly asks (but is ignored because she thinks he is kidding) Marge to call Interpol, to get him a hacksaw or anything.
==Censoring==
[[Fox]] wanted the part where [[Mr. Burns]] is drifting into [[Smithers]] bedroom window censored due to fact that there was a third bump in the sheets. However, the staff told [[Fox]] that it was just his shin and nothing else.
*Lisa has a dream that echoes the [[wikipedia:The Beatles|Beatles]] movie [[wikipedia:Yellow Submarine (film)|Yellow Submarine]], which Al Jean says had to be changed enough so that everything was slightly different due to legal reasons.
**In that dream, George Harrison says: "Look lads, it's Lisa in the sky", and John Lennon: "No diamonds, though" while Lisa is flying over their (purple) submarine. This is a reference to the famous song of The Beatles: "Lucy in the sky with Diamonds", which also featured in the film. Another factor to the dream is that when Lisa is flying, clouds forming the word ''HATRED'' are shown (it was ''LOVE'' in the original movie).
*The scene where Lisa acquires her monstrous braces and breaks her mirror is based on the 1989 film [[wikipedia:Batman_(1989_film)|Batman]].
*The song played by Lisa is Mason Williams' "[[wikipedia:Classical_Gas|Classical Gas]]".<ref name="Groening">Matt Groening, The Simpsons season 4 DVD commentary for the episode "Last Exit to Springfield"</ref>
*When Burns and Smithers slide down the poles to get to the button to switch the power off, it is a reference to the Batman TV show.
*Before [[Mr. Burns]] shuts off the power to the town in response to the strike, he says, "From Hell's heart I stab at thee" which is a reference to Captain Ahab's curse, from the film ''Moby Dick''.<ref name="Woolodarsky">Wallace Woolodarsky, The Simpsons season 4 DVD commentary for the episode "Last Exit to Springfield"</ref>
*The workers' resistance to the power outage, and Mr. Burns' response, is a spoof of ''[[wikipedia:How the Grinch Stole Christmas!|How the Grinch Stole Christmas]]''.
